I went to see one today and on starting my first thoughts were
Ticking like tappets the car had oil and filter change yesterday but was only driven out then parked up overnight
After warming up for a few minutes I took it out and had a six mile run
On getting back it was still there but much quiter
The guy selling said it’s normal
Once the oil has circulated it’ll go
Now I’m no machanic so I need wisdom from you lot

Injectors tick, tick quite loudly... heard really clearly on the drivers side as the vent on this side leads directly to the engine bay. If that's what you heard it's perfectly normal.

Yes valves can tap quite loudly for a while when cold and when car has been standing idle for a long time. It takes time for the pressure to build up .

What's the mileage? Has the water pump been replaced? If you're not sure what the noise is get an independent inspection, certainly don't just believe what the seller tells you nono
