I thought the GT4 was a great little car and, at its price point, preferred it to the 996 GT3 and 997.1 GT3. An easy car to live with and very accessible on track.

However, in the UK, I only ever drive a car when I have to, and getting increasingly frustrated with the seemingly worsening road conditions - the congestion, pot holes, roadworks, noisy asphalt, slow vehicles, speed restrictions..... none of which allow the GT cars to really shine.

I've always liked the 981s, and the GTS is a particularly nice package and a really sweet road car - even on our compromised roads. Interestingly, actually prefer it with PDK.
Cheers, appreciate your thoughts. Very much match my own, especially about the roads, but I differ on gearbox choice smile

The 981 GTS manual is such a blast on the right road. I was back up in Scotland this w/e and drove from Glasgow to the Loch Fyne Oyster bar for lunch, then back. A spectacular road in so many places, scenery awesome, weather hot and sunny, enormous fun with some great food in-between.

Nice one! That’s who I sold my 718 to, seem like good guys to deal with. When are you collecting it?

If you haven’t heard a GTS at all in the flesh you’re gonna be blown away, I haven’t seen a video that does it justice biggrin

Congratulations! Looks ace.

I'm in the market in a couple of months for one (need to pass an exam first and this will be my reward).

That’s a strange order to do it in ... For my PDK car I press PSE, drop the windows and then turn the key biggrin

For my PDK car I

Drop the roof with the remote
Get in
Drop the windows fully
Start car, smile and listen to engine growl
Press Sport
Move PDK to manual
Emit an evil laugh

Then after 5 minutes drive home and log onto pistonheads and boxa and post all night about having dual air con and the 718 noise you don’t like for 6 or 7 hours. Every night.... every day. I truly think you have mental health isssues …… why on earth does a car that you’ll never buy annoy you so much. It’s pretty wierd. The most defining part of your life seems to be getting a car with air conditioning… very strange and pitiful. Good luck with it all haha

Do you regret your purchase?

718s are like £60K Golf Rs to me......which is annoying, because I thought I'd have another after my 981.....no chance I'd ever make that switch!

Yes, because Golf R's have their engine just behind the front seats... Jesus Christ. Drive one and make your own mind up, is what I would plan to do if I wasn't planning an Aston next smile

Seems to be a lot of talk on forums about the switch, but I'd never base any decisions on forum talk !

Hi Ruf, troll me on the 718 whinging thread if you like but this thread is about then 981 or can’t you read a title as your sooooo obsessed with following me around the forum. You seem to have an obsession with mental illness. Honest question are you on meds as I don;t want to take the Michael if your mental state is delicate ?

Not poo pooing the banter chaps but each to their own. I test dove a 718 gts and have had several rides in my neighbors new one and I've no doubt it is probably better dynamically but the sound is too important me. A first world problem and respect to 718 981 owners alike.

JTT is like a piece of the furniture on some of these threads. I disagree with most of what he says but you have to admit the guy has a passion.

JTT the 718 is better, improved and faster than a 981, but we all enjoy different things. Torque and speed for me every time with better tech. But I’d say the 718 looks far nicer as well than the 981. NA power delivery is a load of BS like these manual gearbox aficionados love to live in the past.

Have a look at yourself!

If you've bought a 718, you've paid more money for fewer cylinders, a smaller engine and a loss of 'soul'.
Word - yo!

Actually I partially agree with Bob here. I’ve told all my friends that my 718 CS was the best car I’ve ever owned, awesome overtaking power, best handling Porsche I’ve had, best tech, sharpest looks ...

... and yet out of the 9 Caysters I’ve had it’s the only one I couldn’t love, and I really really tried over the 10 months I had it frown

Since swapping it for another 981 I couldn’t be happier to be in the slower outdated car, totally in love again wink

Early morning drive and shoot today biggrin
