Yes, the only problem is the engine sounds st, therefore the 981 is a better all-round proposition, therefore I bought a 981. With a manual gearbox because you have to use the PDK in manual mode to get the best out of it, which is perverse. It's really very simple.

If you are prepared to put up with the racket the 781 makes, and also use an auto as a manual, then good for you.

I'm afraid the 718 really doesn't sound good to fans of the 981. There's no bks or drinking involved when coming to that conclusion smile

Come off it. The only criticism that everyone appears to agree with is the 718's engine noise (and throttle response in some cases). It's universally derided. Apart from that, great cars but lacking the magic of the previous engines.

You stand on your soap-box and claim the newer, quicker, better 718 is "universally derided".

No, not everyone agrees with you. Get over it.

He means the sound is universally derided, not the whole car smile

Oh, and "better" is subjective...

JTT is like a piece of the furniture on some of these threads. I disagree with most of what he says but you have to admit the guy has a passion.

JTT the 718 is better, improved and faster than a 981, but we all enjoy different things. Torque and speed for me every time with better tech. But I’d say the 718 looks far nicer as well than the 981. NA power delivery is a load of BS like these manual gearbox aficionados love to live in the past.
Obviously I disagree, its not better, is not improved but rather a step back in terms of drivers experience. It might be faster but there are many cars that are faster than a 718 does that make them all better cars, of course not.

The 718 looks great, handles superbly and is quick, just like the 981. The incredible flat 6 engine and superior throttle response make the 981 the driver’s choice, all day long.
Anyone who says otherwise is either not really into their subject matter, or is trying to justify their choice.
The number of 718 GTSs on the market now tells a story, as will residuals.

Good points.
What I can't get my head around is that 718 buyers have happily paid MORE for LESS. It makes no sense.

Porsche have sold you a car with a 33% smaller engine for a 10% higher price.
And then they say 'but it's faster and more powerful......'
Of course it is theyve strapped a TURBO on to it!!!!

Any car can be made faster/more powerful with a turbo. Just like any turbo car can be made MORE powerful with a BIGGER TURBO!! Duhhhh

And people are lapping this up. Porsche marketing is truly a thing of wonder........

A 2.0 or even 2.5 turbo engine has no place in a proper sports car. Ever.

I'm sitting on a sofa claiming no such thing, as I'm sure you are aware.

It looks like the 718 war has spread over into this thread. As this is about the 981 I’ll refrain from posting any further, guys you know where the action is.

This is such weird behaviour. There's no "war".

It's pretty obvious that 981 owners could switch to the 718 quite painlessly, and yet they choose not to. Is there a reason for this? Could it be that the 718 isn't such fun to drive and generally be in? Could it also be that we are not prepared to swap to a slightly faster car if the downside is as severe as it is? How many times do you need to be told?

This is playground stuff. If you don't agree with what I'm saying, well, I don't really care, tbh. But surely you are capable of contributing something a little more mature than this. First, it's a war, and now this.

Think a joint 718 981 North Walea run is called for to clear the air. PDK only though.
