Ladies and Gents - has anybody put a Milltek exhaust on their M135i?

I am thinking about it and I see there is a 'cat back' version and a 'rear silencer' version both of which come in 'road' or 'race'.

I don't want to spend a fortune so am leaning towards the rear silencer version (which is £600ish and easy enough to fit I believe) but are they any good and would I be right in sticking to the 'road' rather than 'race' as I am a long way past my boy racer days!

Any experiences or thoughts would be appreciated smile

I can’t offer any direct experience but I’ve looked into exhausts for my M140 and this info may also apply to the 135;

Fitting a backbox requires cutting off the old one from the mid pipe so it’s not as simple as bolt-off bolt-on

A used M Performance backbox can usually be had for around £500 which you may also feel is an option

Thanks for the reply Dave. I have read that the MPE is somewhat underwhelming hence thinking about the Milltek - trouble is all the videos I can find are of the full cat back system...

I think I will go for a cat back on my m240i, as don't really want to start cutting exhausts, plus I want to maintain a valve, which the MPE doesn't on the 40i engine. Think it does on the 35i. It seems a toss up between the Milltek and the Remus, but I prefer the Milltek tip options. Trouble is I really want to hear them on the flesh to be sure, and that's no easy.

I know it’s not as loud as some of the other systems but I prefer my cars to look OEM and don’t want a boy racer loud system so the MPE seems a decent middle ground to me. To each their own though smile

Found this which may be of interest ref the different driving modes - I now have Sport set up with 'Drivetrain' only which gives me nice soft suspension for around town but had the valves open on the exhaust all the time I think so I best try this for a while before I do anything else!

One of my issues with the MPE is that I think it does look a bit too aftermarket, often sticking out too far. I prefer a black slash tip in a sensible size that would blend in better.

I’ve had a Miltek (not on a BMW) and it was a great exhaust. Barely louder than standard but added a lovely burble (Fiat Coupe 20vt).

I’d assumed that was down to poor fitting rather than the exhaust itself. If that’s the case tho I’ll have a rethink!

A few people have them trimmed I think otherwise they tend to stick out a bit further than the stock item...

It's arrived! <24 hours which is impressive. Need to talk to my local garage now about getting it fitted - according to Roadrunner there is no welding or cutting needed... we shall see smile

Got it fitted today: cost £80 at local place - no welding needed and only tricky bit was where to cut the old one.

Will get a short video done this weekend but it sounds great - not massively louder but a bit deeper and plenty of pops and crackles etc. To the untrained eye you wouldn't notice much difference in the looks department but I prefer it to the OEM item.

I got the original exhaust away with me and I could barely lift the ruddy thing it's so heavy whereas the Milltek one was a doddle to move about even in a big box smile

Here's a quick video in case in might be of use to others - it's the Milltek Rear Silencer (Road) kit - £600 to buy and £80 to fit smile

From inside it's not massively different - maybe 10% louder - will give it a while to bed in and may go for the rest of the cat back system in due course.
