And arrogant - who are you to call the OP clueless and ignorant about cars ?
I think you'll find that moose wasn't addressing the OP at all with his comments, but let's move on.

I think cmoose's comparison with the Cayman R is pretty much spot on. At Beaulieu I was chatting to a very pleasant lady who'd just taken delivery of a 911 T, and hers was the only one there - of which there were at least six - that seemed to fit with the T ethos. While the others had put in the full on PCM system, added privacy glass and slapped the back seats back in, she'd kept hers minimalist, with no back seats, lightweight glass and had specced the lightweight buckets, too.

The biggest problem with the T, is that unlike the Cayman R most of the weight saving can be specced back in at no cost, which means...

1. It's far easier to swallow when putting that weight back in.

2. You're not actually saving anything on the purchase price, because even if you don't spec that kit back in, you've essentially paid for it anyway.

Personally I really like the idea of a properly specced out T, and just like moose, I think they could have gone further with it than they have - still wouldn't swap my R for one, though smile

I don't think anyone is lauding it as the best car ever just a fun non-GT car to drive in spite of being 'a parts bin special!' What was particularly crazy were how many salesman tried to persuade me not to get one despite never having driven a T. Work that one out!
PH thread descends into farce ... biggrin:

hehe

Funny how David’s mindless spiel is nearly always the catalyst for such forum shenanigans hehe

But Jeremy was pretty much spot on with his original summation of said contributor and his non-sensical ramblings hehe

I have never lauded any car as the best ever.

For me personally the modern 911 is bloatware, I don’t like the 718 but love the 981.

A bog standard manual 981 would make me happy.

But then neither are my 3.2, which will always be my favourite. Although it’s not s lot fun in this heatwave.

Today I wussed out and took the 987 tip with roof down and air con on. What a wonderful drive with that 3.4 singing as we criss crossed the Peak District.

I have done 4300 miles in my Carrera T now. Despite the naysayers, it is, by far, the favourite Porsche that I have owned and I had the fabled 997GTS before it (another parts bin special derided at launch). Feedback from other owners is remarkably strong too.

The beauty of the T is that it’s actually fun to drive and fun as an ownership proposition rather than an investment vehicle. To be honest, I would feel like a bit of a tosser in an RS in a regional urban environment and when not out with car club mates but I can take the T pretty much anywhere.

I suppose the 911R stops Porsche selling a Cayman R again but a Cayman with the same philosophy applied - go faster stripes and a few choice options would be a fun thing.

Have to say I disagree with those who say that the T should have been more raw. As an ownership proposition it is fabulous and I wouldn’t really want it noisier or more uncomfortable. PASM stays in soft mode all the time anyway due to the atrocious state of U.K. roads...

He’s a self-proclaimed porsche fan boy. You would have to watch his multiple porsche reviews to be the judge of his ‘credibility’. His reviews are more real-world and given that he’s spent a fair amount of time driving the various versions of the porsche range (importantly not lent by Porsche) he has ‘more’ creditability and visibility than anonymous posters (myself included) on forums IMHO.

‘Harry’s Garage’ review of Porsche 991.2 S is probably the most honest appraisal and it would be interesting to see what he makes of the T. At 16.24 he sums up the S engine as a disappointment and suspects that the base engine is the ‘honey’ in the turbo range. I'm assuming you know Harry's credentials??

I also rate Harry Catchpole’s Carfection reviews too. Here is his T review:

No need for sarky comments.

looks like 30kg weight saving which is much more of a significant reduction in weight than the 911t's 20kg as the cayman is a bit lighter.

911 t weight reduction - 1.31%
cayman t weight reduction - 2.12%

that's 61% of an improvement!

plus it'll most likely have fabric door pulls !

the cayman r was a reduction of 4.19% and the 10bhp made it 251bhp/tonne over the S 234bhp/tonne.

the problem though as people mentioned is the psm and aircon, none more apparent than in the T though whereby if you spec it then you're only losing 5kg of weight which is nothing
