Hi all,

put a deposit down on a 2015 65 Cayman S (981) the other day after 11 years as a VAG hot hatch owner.

In my 11 years I have been used to using VCDS to change ECU settings, such as turning off cornering fog lights, activating alarm bleep, activating brake light blinking under hard braking, auto lock doors, mirror dipping, diabling start stop etc etc etc.

Been told a specialist can do this on Porsche with PIWISS, question is does anybody have a list of stuff that can be enabled/disabled on a 981 Cayman?

Really not as difficult as above. Settings will obviously depend on what is fitted but look at these....

http://www.porscheownersmanuals.com/2014-cayman/in...

http://www.porscheownersmanuals.com/2014-cayman/ex...

and the Car's Manual will cover more.

Stop/Start is controlled by a button by the gear lever - you have to reset to "Off" after each start - EU requirement unlike USA

Auto Lock Doors - Controlled by setting accessed via dash menu as are many others

I've not found an alarm beep? Is there one?
Brake light blinking under hard braking is standard I believe.

Mine auto locks doors, dips passenger mirror.
No dealer intervention required, just onboard menus for these.

Stop start can also be disabled by switching into Sport or Sport Plus.

Cupra had this as standard as well, I disabled it by setting the triggering value on alternator to a lot lower or higher (can't remember) that it ever got to, worked a treat.

Don't know, was kinda hoping there was, I find it useful, say somebody has a key jammer nearby, the alarm wouldn't bleep when walking away therefore I would know its not locked.

That's why I've had it on all of my VAG cars.

My Start/Stop has been set so that it defaults to the "Off" position. If i ever want to use Start/Stop I have to switch it "On" by pressing the button by the gearlever. This change made a huge improvement to the car.

If so, I suspect his dealer is based outside EU

I have heard of a Porsche Centre changing the default of the stop/start. A chap on Boxa.net had it done by Bolton IIRC. It is fairly easy to do with a PIWIS. I have done a few.

Another thing I've coded is the rain sensor wipers. It seems all 981 Boxsters have the sensor fitted, but are only activated as part of an option pack.

I will email the dealer today see if they would be willing to make some changes for me, start/stop disabled is a big one, rain sensor wipers as well (not sure if the car has it turned on already)

You can't easily disable the stop/start, but you can code the default to "off" or "remember last setting". If you are anywhere near me (Maidenhead, Berks) I would be happy to do it for you. Drop me an email (via my profile) if I can help.

What a relief NOT to have rain sensing wipers! My previous 5 cars had them, but not the 981. It's a huge improvement.
Now I can select a speed appropriate to the rain. I do have to use a finger of my right hand to do this, sigh.

Our BMW has "mad rain sensor wipers". When it rains hard they go slow. When it rains lightly they go extra fast!

Had them on my Leon, left them in auto, if I ever felt they weren't needed or were to fast I'd just put them into manual.

The problem with that is you then only have two speeds coming out of auto into manual, whereas with manual intermittent wipe (remember that?) I have four.

Same with the BMW, wipers go mad so switch off auto and then there's only two speeds.

What else have I found out I don't like?... auto dimming rear view mirrors.

My TTS had auto dimming mirrors, they'd all go dark so I wasn't so conscious of traffic around the car.
Now, my door mirrors stay undimmed and my rear view mirror, which is where the dazzle comes from, can be dimmed by using yet another of my spare fingers and my thumb. It requires a slight effort to raise my left arm but I find I can manage this.

So, yet again I wrench control back from my car.

...it is PDK though wobble
