Does anyone know if Bridgestone RE050 Potenzas are being discontinued, particularly for the Cayman sizes?

Went to a tyre fitter to have New rears fitted on my 987 (265/40/18s) and turns out I need the fronts as well.

They’d ordered the rears in but when they went to order the fronts no joy. They rang their supplier and checked Bridgestone tyre and the fronts had a price but weren’t showing available to order. He suggested it looks like they’re being discontinued. They spent a good half hour trying different places. Found somewhere that had them in stock but will take a week. My mot is on Wed so that’s no good as it runs out and then I’m away a week. They preferred to source the potenzas as the rears were delivered from Belgium but after exhausting all options it was a negative.

In the end went with Michelin Pilot sport 2 as the PS4s wouldn’t arrive until after my MOT.

No idea if I’ve made the right decision. I know it’s going to cost me getting on £100 more than a set of potenzas..

Don't know if they are being phased out, but if they are it's not a surprise to me, given the age of the compound 'recipe'. Porsche don't seem to test and approve new design tyres for older models, so all recommended tyres for a specific model will be no newer than the day the last car came off the production line (at the absolute latest!). This may be wrong so someone please correct me if it is..

PS2s are excellent all-round tyres and will serve you well, I've been very pleased with those I had/have fitted. However they are also based on older tyre compound technology, which is why I've decided to take a step away from N-rated tyres next time round, either for PS4Ss or Vredestein Ultrac Vortis.

Going by some of the discussion's I've read here my car may spontaneously combust as soon as non-N-rated rubber touches the rim. But I suspect everything will be fine...

Cheers for the info. Makes me feel better. I’m the same, couldn’t care less if N rated or not. I quite fancied the PS4s after a phone google search at the tyre place, but the delivery time was going to be an issue (I’m in NI). Sounds like the PS2s will be just the ticket then.

My R rolled out of the factory on Bridgestones and I never really liked them, although they were better than the Pirellis that my 997 C2S came with.

I’ve got Michelin Cup 2s on it now and it’s infinitely better with them, although mine is mainly used for track days and drive outs. If it was a daily I’d have Michelin Super Sports or PS4S on it.

PS4s aren’t available in 265/40/18 for it apparently. I’ve got PS2 on it. I’m really happy with them so glad I was forced to change. They’re better than the potenza! Car feels less skippy and more planted. Plus driving over the same bumps in the road is noticeably smoother

I have the Bridgestones on my recently acquired 987 boxster S and they look like new, trouble is they are rock hard especially the first few miles and more akin to a run flat. For all this N nonsense the tyre is poor for the application.

On investigation I got to the same place that a PS2 is the best answer and Im confident it will work for me based on your comments and on my X3 i went from Pirelli rft to michelin super sport and the low speed compliance is transformed.

Late in the season now so I will get fresh ps2 in spring.
