We have tested re-gearing on our own project GT4 and have settled on a solution that changes 3rd, 4th, and 5th gears to shorter, closer ratios (approx difference is 14% in 3rd, 18% in 4th, and 16% in 5th).
IMO that is not fixing the problem at all. It still leaves a far too long 2nd gear (max speed 84mph). Every gear from 2 to 5 needs geared downwards.LiamH66 said:

May I ask how much the 718 depreciated, I know some would like to think it’s “epic”, but I think they’ll hold up ok??
12.5k, possibly better, we're working out the finer detail. A friend's AMG GT S seems to have fared far less well despite much lower mileage. I'm neither surprised not disappointed.Liam

The Autoquest 20% Reduction FD solution look awesome for a Track only car imo.... as that vid shows. Probably a bit too short if you do any distance in the car on the road though.
As some one said... 2,3,4 & 5 shortened, with a slightly longer 6th for the cruise would probably be ideal. Or maybe even just leave 6 alone.

even the most ardent hater of the engine change would concede a 718 does not drive “real bad”. You are a comedian James.
Did you test drive the GT4, Liam ?
I did not. Funnily enough I test drive very few cars that I buy. Generally takes me a few weeks to figure out if I like them or not, so a test drive is kind of pointless. The "almost" exception to this was the 718 C, where I test drove a 718 Boxster to see if I could live with the 2.0 T4 engine. I know I can live with stupidly tall gearing, as I have done so for the last 16 months or so!Did you test drive the GT4, Liam ?

Looks like the deed is done, although I will be getting something else to use when it can't really be a daily (salty roads, long term car parks, etc.), but deposit paid, so I'm committed (or ought to be). Intent is as a long term keeper, so depreciation will be fairly academic if it really is a huge issue. FWIW the 718 seems to have done OK for 16 months depreciation.
Congratulations. Used in that way I think you are going to love the GT4. Just got mine back today after having a 718 boxster (PDK) as a loaner for a few days. This just reaffirmed my thoughts that the GT4 is in a completely different class to a 718 for driving enjoyment. anonymous said:

I thought there were 4x the wear if you did that solution ! as the gears don't wear even so just wear out fast !the GT4 won't suit gearing that short either as the engine don't rev out, so no need to red line the car.
look at any dyno of a GT4 and peak is very early, I never did manage to vbox short shifting over red line to confirm, but I think there is no point red lining a Gt4.
most plots are making peak BHP at 6300 rpm !!!
only the x51 cars and the super tuned GT4 make peak higher up !
even with a chip tune peak is still sub 6500 rpm

Jens sent me a quote for a 3.8 in the GTS, alot........ stoked 3.8 is going to be astronomical lol.
you can get 380BHP from the GTS anyway with bolt ons . and it will keep making BHP to red line.380bhp =
Looking at stages.Filters+Re-map 350hp, + Manifolds 360/370hp + IPD 370hp/375hp + Exhaust 375/385hp.

All of the fast nurburgring lap times and other magazine test videos have the driver changing at around 7500rpm in the GT4. The Porsche book figure is peak power at 7400rpm.look at any dyno of a GT4 and peak is very early, I never did manage to vbox short shifting over red line to confirm, but I think there is no point red lining a Gt4.
