Que?

Wikipedia tells us: "Although gasoline direct injection engines dramatically reduce carbon dioxide emissions, they release about 1,000 times more particles classified by the World Health Organization as harmful than traditional petrol engines and 10 times more than new diesel engines. The release happens because direct injection results in uneven burning of fuel due to uneven mixing of fuel and air (stratification) and because direct-injection engines operate with a higher pressure in their cylinders than older indirect-injection engines.

"This pollution can be prevented with a relatively inexpensive particulate filter that can significantly reduce the emissions of particles. As of September 2017, Euro 6 emission regulations limit particle numbers at a maximum of 6×1011 per kilometre over the New European Driving Cycle. Some gasoline direct injection engines might require gasoline particulate filters (GPFs) to meet that standard."

Any car registered after 31st August (with the exception of dealer showroom cars - how defined I don't know) has to conform to WLTP standards, and therefore have the particulate filter. So I'd be surprised if there aren't any rolling around with one fitted.

I hope they cause less hassle than the Diesel particulate filters do

Don’t think cars are coming through. New Macan’s were due this month but are now Q1 next year I believe.

Yep, I don't think Porsche have delivered anything with a GPF to the UK yet.

So the good points are lower emissions, the bad points are reduced power, and more muted exhaust..

I suppose both these issues can be dialled out with software changes, and redesign of the exhaust systems, but I understand that new Boxsters/Caymans are coming with sport exhaust as standard..

Interesting times...

Watched a transporter full of base model Macan's and a few Cayman GTS arrive at OPC Silverstone yesterday. Assume these will have GPFs

Yup. Total mess. Every option has to be tested for its impact on emissions.....christ knows how long it will be before they can offer the whole model range with flexibility to order the car as you want it.

It’s a good question..One I will be asking at at Porsche GB customer feedback day tomorrow.

Not just the DPF though is it. They’ve had a few shockers over the last couple of years.

Not just Porsche , Mini have dropped the JCW for time being and the extras for other models have now been streamlined into 3 ( I believe) categories

Certainly not exclusive to Porsche - Audi having issues with most RS product (I have customers who have literally no idea when or if there ordered cars will arrive!) and the BMW M3 has been dropped from the range as apparently BMW are concentrating their efforts on getting the various M4 models compliant....

Makes me laugh, you now have some manufacturers "promoting" special limited eidtion models where you have no choice of extras ie they can't sell anything else but pass them off as special editions for our benefit not theirs !

The whole industry has acted criminally / lied for years and now are being punished for it, simple as that.
