987 Gearshift problem.

Had exactly the same this week, gear lever had sloppy movement backwards and forwards, no sideways movement and stuck in 1st gear.
Unlike you though I had 187 miles to go so it was a recovery truck job back straight to my usual garage.
They rang to confirm that it was a snapped cable, part ordered and car planned to be repaired tomorrow
74k miles and first time this problem has occurred. (I know the full history of the car as I bought it off a family member)

Just as an aside to this gear box stuff...
Why is it PDK, which stands for Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe. Which is German for Double clutch gearbox. Perfect but then it's PCCB, which is English for Porsche Carbon Ceramic Brakes. Shouldn't it be PKKB?
