Hi all,

My 10k mile Cayman GT4 is still running its original Cup2's and they've been through one too many heat cycles and are running low on tread depth.

In the dry I think Cup2's are sensational but I need a tyre that's more of a compromise for the wet and dry. I want to try the 4S but it looks like I can only get an N rated front, and I'll have to got for a non-N rated rear...

Unless anyone knows otherwise? and thoughts welcome on alternative choices.

thanks

Simon

I’m the current owner of a 996.2 that you used to own. I recognised your name from the car’s history file.

Nice car and some very expensive dampers!

I have another now as I like the 996 generation GT3 so much

That’s interesting and good to hear, especially with your ‘car history’.

Loving mine; it is on its original plate (for now) so if you spot it on track / at event, do come and say hi.

Cheers

Literally just done this exact same thing for my GT4.

There AREN'T any N rated rears unfortunately, so you will have to go with the standard spec tyre. I believe the front is the same as the 911 Turbo which is where it got it's N rating from, but nothing else with the same rear size.

What I can say though is that they are excellent, have been great over the past couple of weeks when it's been wet and also really cold.

No hesitation in recommending them.

Hi,

I ran Dunlops then P-Zeros's on mine.

Honestly, i wanted Cup2's and couldn't get them. So I got P-Zeros like my 911 and as a road tyre and occassion track, they are fine (regardless fo what folks on forums write). Probably a bit prone to overheating... I ran my P-Zero's at 30 / 31 PSI on the track and they got pretty soft (but be careful of ripping off the centre treadblocks). They do get a but squishy after some hot laps.

As long as you are happy with the potential warranty issues !!

" Sorry sir we cannot cover your engine failure because your rear tyres are not an approved type"

May sound silly but could happen frown

I'm looking for a pair of rear tyres for the spring when the car comes out again, done 13700 on the originals, the fronts still have plenty of tread, so will continue with Cup 2's the best price I can find at the minute fitted is £288 has anyone got a better deal as that seems a bit high.

LOL "bit prone to overheating, careful of ripping off the centre treadblocks and they do get a bit squishy after some hot laps". Where do I sign up.........I have them on my wife's Boxster which is laugh a minute on the road. First chance I get they will be gone and a set of Michelin Pilot SS will be installed. Slowest Porsche I have ever driven and easily the worst tyre although all the rest were on Pilot Sport or Cups 1 or 2.
