I can’t remember where, but certainly read it. Sure it was on one of the global Facebook Groups. As I say I was speculating about price. But can only imagine these will be low number cars (not necessarily GT); positioned above the GTS as you say, but also based on demand (and what happened with the last gt4 release) prices will be driven up. If they are £70k to £90k this seems incredibly cheap and suspect prices will naturally inflate over £100k. I’m sure porsche will want their slice of the pie. If not, and launched at the price point suggested here, I’d be inclined to stick a deposit down tomorrow if I could get a slot! As we all know most cars with 6 cylinders plus are growing in demand with the demise of NA.

Not sure I'd bet against it. List price plus options of a new 718 GT4 will be much closer to £100k than for the 981, and the 981 GT4 sold for over £100k early on. Plus it's very eagerly awaited.

If the 6 cylinder powertrain can match the one in my Cayman R I could well be tempted by this new 718. I love the looks and interior but the engine (on paper) isn’t special enough. I might go try a GTS....

Bar the engine, how has the 718 moved the game on?

The 718 GT4 will be £75k max basic. Anticipated initial premiums will mean the first flipped good spec cars will be £110k to £115k.

But we are not talking a GT product here. And the Cayman has a max ceiling price unlike the 911 (within limits).

Steering feel is better and it turns a bit sharper. That's it IMHO unless infotainment is important.

Interior and styling is different rather than better, unless you personally prefer it either way (I much prefer both on the 981 for example).

Lovely chassis. stty engine in my opinion which is probably pretty meaningless as I’ve never driven one ...

Lovely chassis. stty engine in my opinion which is as a result of driving one of them for far further than I would choose to

Any truth to the rumours that they're not selling very well?
Just to bring this back up, I was at Porsches On The Prom today in Llandudno and by my estimate there were around 7-800 cars there, we completely filled the prom. There were more 718s there than 981s, including around 10+ 718 GTSs. Based on that, I'd say they were selling OK.

I seem to recall there were some good PCP deals on GTSs with very high GFVs at one point this may have helped sales for people who don't buy outright.

That is my understanding. They were only a few hundred quid a month to get into. High GFV.

rofl Care to expand on that ? What about the faster, much improved and more efficient engine wasn’t to your satisfaction? Or perhaps this is just more unfounded nonsense posted about the “sound” myth because you once read it in Auto Express..

No, it was my opinion from actually driving one for an extended period. I thought the engine was hateful. It might be more efficient, but it was st to drive. Laggy, odd-sounding and just weird.

Your comments bear absolutely no resemblance to my own experience of the car, either as a loaner when my 981 was in for service or at the Porsche centre, Silverstone.

If this could happen with a GTS-6 then I am in in in.... whilst formulating how to keep it on the drive thereafter.

There was the GPF-driven shutdown remember so that stopped all sales for a while.

My point was that I regularly see 718s in my local area, and there were plenty at the PCGB meet yesterday. Rumours of them not selling are unfounded. They do seem to sell but maybe not fly out of the door.

I would assume the Cayster market there is still a large amount of buyers that do not give two hoots about the engine in the back!

Any facts to back that up in the context of the overall sports car market?

Have a look at Jaguar F-type as well. They launched the 4-pot turbo version to increase sales, not reduce sales.

That was to introduce a cheaper entry point though wasn't it? Not something that the F4T 718 did.

Overall boxster sales have been decreasing year on year for last 5 years so that includes 981's
