The new 718 Gt4/Spyder are here!
Discussion
I’m going to go against the flow and say I think Porsche missed a trick here.
I think the back end is really ugly, the spoiler has lost its sense of proportion compared to the 981, and the same gearing and lack of improved performance is disappointing.
This is not the groundbreaking car the 981 GT4 was. It’s a slightly tweaked version that has lost a bit of the grace and balance of the original GT4.
They’ll sell all of them (twice if they wanted) of course, but I am underwhelmed. I won’t be asking to buy another one.
Good luck to you if you go for it.

I think some people are judging the 718gt4/spyder before it's been driven ,the higher co2/weight figures is down to the WLTP , no one really knows what the gearing is at this stage could the acceleration figures which are close to the old model be due to different ratios?
I reserve judgement until I hear reviews from reputable auto journalists or I am lucky enough to drive one

Yes. The diffuser and exhausts are all wrong. The Spyder looks better than the GT4 this time however - my post above was aimed squarely at the GT4. Should have made that clearer. The back end of the 981 GT4 was cleaner, neater and significantly less fussy. The overall design felt more cohesive than this new version - which looks a bit too fussy and unbalanced.
All IMHO of course....

Quite a few journos have reported that the gearing is the same. The new engine has a wider torque band however. I reserve judgement until I hear reviews from reputable auto journalists or I am lucky enough to drive one
It'll be interesting to see if the de-winged "6" will end up as a touring option or as a stand alone model?
It'd be hard to fit in with the GTS so I'd imagine it'll be a more limited, so an option on the GT4?
Having said that, they'll want to recoup the engine costs, maybe the 992 base carrera will get it! ... wishful thinking..

I fail to see why you need to spend in excess of £85k on the 718 gt4/spyder, all you need to add is the PDLS/LED lights, leather and seats of choice nothing else adds to the driving experience or future values. Some may argue the ceramics but the steels are perfectly effective, as they say less is more! But each to their own the trinket options are longer this time round to tempt prospective buyers to part with more cash!
Ceramics add little value and values of 981 GT4 ceramic braked cars v steels confirm this. Will be the same for the 718.Lighting upgrades also not reflected in higher residuals on 981 GT4s.
No brainer options also adding value uplift are buckets, climate, carbon trim, leather and coloured stitching, climate and possibly chrono.
Clubsport car premiums probably won't exceed costed option depending how many are specced new.

yes I commented the other day (on the other thread) that the old GT4 will plummet in value, for which I was laughed at. They will hit £50K in a year.
I can't see your logic. In a year those that can't buy a new 718 GT4 will be faced with the prospect of buying a flipped car for around £100K. Therefore there is no way a 981 GT4 will be half the price. See the used 991.1 versus used 991.2 GT3 differential for a more factual picture. Instead, all I can see from your statement is someone wishing misfortune on others.boxsey said:

As above look at 991.1 vs 991.2 GT3 as a comparison

I'm pleased to say I have been phoned to say that I have an allocation in the first batch (my OPC is getting 4). So excited!
I've been patiently watching the classifieds for the perfect 997.2 GT3 and it hasn't quite materialised, so it's nice to see I can spec up a GT4 really well and still be no worse off. Plus there's no need to worry about the issues that might creep in on a 10 year old car.
For those curious:
- An email of intent was sent well over a year ago
- I have history with the OPC (5 or more cars bought)
- I bought a car from them this year (just a Macan Diesel)
- I missed out on the last GT4 (and they knew it)
- I nagged 'my' salesman (in a light hearted way!) relentlessly
- A "please please please" email was sent to the Dealer Principal
- The Dealer Principal then consulted with 'my' salesman, and I got the call this afternoon
I now have to sell my Performante, and look forward to getting back into a proper Porsche!
Sell the Performante what a car you have. I’d be interested to know what they go for now!I've been patiently watching the classifieds for the perfect 997.2 GT3 and it hasn't quite materialised, so it's nice to see I can spec up a GT4 really well and still be no worse off. From all accounts the '6' isn't based on the GT4 platform though, its just a standard 718 with a 6 cyl engine. It'd be hard to fit in with the GTS so I'd imagine it'll be a more limited, so an option on the GT4?.
So it will address the issue with sound from the 4 cyl, but it isn't really a GT4 touring in any way
