Take note of the Gentian Blue GT4's reg no and ensure you don't buy it when it comes up for sale at an OPC in about 3 months time.

Hammered by TDT with only 300miles on the clock. Not the best way of carefully running in a new car hehe
They don’t sell the PEC GT cars...they keep them all. Only ones they do keep. There’s a compound the Just inside the circuit where they keep them all....just the other slide of the bridge. You can see it from the restaurant.
When I did my half day a couple of weeks ago I used a yellow GT4 that was a preproduction model that I could not take on the road and was told they would crush that car. On my previous visit I was told by an instructor that they were left for about 3 months and then sold on through the network. That was about 18 months ago so don't know if it's changed.

Normal production cars are sold on, GT cars are not by the sound of it.

There’s something about pre-production cars that means they have to be written off/crushed so the manufacturer can claim R&D costs against tax.

First impression of my Spyder are mixed. Good points: it feels like a GT Porsche should, surprisingly heavy control weights at all points of contact. Burmester is excellent, first Porsche GT car I’ve ever had with a decent stereo, at last. Hood sealing and general fit and finish is excellent, Looks great (subjective I know).

Bad points: seats set a bit high, I've got the heated buckets which are the same seats as my R but still feel to be a bit perched on the car, odd, I need to do a back to back over the weekend. Driver interface is still poor, my R8 is 2 years old now but is still leagues ahead in this respect. The exhaust noise is very disappointing, but expected, the GPF does flatten the sound into a tuneless blare, only done 4K revs so far until it’s run in. Hopefully it will get more tuneful as the revs build, much better than the F4 unit but still a shadow of non GPF cars in the fleet. Best of a bad job probably and I guess we need to get used to the new world.

Looking forwards to finding out if I gel with it or not, jury is still out and I need a few sunny top down drives to find it’s mojo.

Personally I would prefer it with PDK, but maybe next time.

Sorry to hear you have mixed feelings.

Re. the seats, this is why I don't like them. I wonder if they're set higher in the 981/982 than in the 987 for crash or safety reasons? The seats were introduced for the 9x7 series if I remember rightly, so maybe they were fine in that application but not a 9x1. Having tried them in a 981 Spyder I felt exactly as you've described - 'on' rather than 'in' the car.

As for the exhaust, I'm watching JCR closely: https://www.instagram.com/p/B5oBfYvlgnv/

This is probably the fourth or fifth Porsche I’ve had with these seats and they still fit me like a glove and are comfy but it just doesn’t feel quite right. confused

It was for this very reason that I decided to add the 918 "Full" buckets (electric height adjustable, fixed back and no heating option) rather than the "Sport" buckets being discussed here (fixed height but fold and can be heated) to my 718 Spyder order.

I tried the "Full" buckets on a 981 Spyder and found that set to their lowest they went low enough to feel "in" rather than "on" + As I'm a fairly big chap the broader fit of the "Full" compared to the "Sport" was better for me.

Great spec Colin with the White exterior and yellow PCCBs..I also think you made the right choice with silver wheels as i think Black wheels have had their day..I've gone from having three sports cars with Black rims six months ago to my current two, neither of them have black rims..The folding buckets sit was too high for me at only 5' 11'' so they must be a nightmare for you..Should have got the height adjustable 918 buckets which i spec on all my GT Porsches.
JCR Titanium exhaust is going on my RS OPF next year as soon as they have released all options for me to choose which one to get.

As i said in my post about these cars, confirming what AP said in the Carfection 718 GT4/Spyder video... seat choice is going to be crucial to whether or not you get on with these cars and can really with make or break your experience.

718 GT4 on 18 sport seats was essentially ruined for me.
Folding Buckets in the 718 Spyder was much better - but still not as connected or as low as 918 Full Buckets when i got back into my own GT4.

I previously bought an ex PEC GT4, which was also the original press car - had been well used with 16k miles when I bought it - highest mileage GT4 in the UK at the time in Dec 2016. It was immaculately prepared with new PCCBs, probably had some paint as it was perfect. Really high spec too.

Had it for 9 months, did over 7k miles and took it to the Ring 4 times and did a number of other UK trackdays - ran perfectly - never missed a beat, Had full warranty as an approved used car, etc..

So, from that experience, I would recommend an ex PEC car and wouldn't hesitate to buy one again, especially as that was the best value GT4 in terms of spec for £ at the time.

Here it is below being driven properly smile Wasn't me though smile

Agree on the black wheels Taffy never liked them anyway and any good design features are completely lost which is a shame as the new 718 GT4 wheels look great. This is why I always spec satin plat or silver on my GT cars.

We had the seat discussion several times re the p3 p11 buckets for the 981 GT4 and 991.2 GT3 and I seem to remember the consensus was that the newer fixed Spyder buckets at their lowest point are around half a centimetre lower than the folding buckets. I have the folding buckets in my 981 Spyder (which were free as standard) and the lower fixed buckets in my 981 GT4 and GT3 and given the 718 Spyder is proper GT Porsche this time around the correct choice of seat is obviously more important and those speccing should perhaps be aware of this mindful of individual body 'build' and of course the cars intended use.

Surely the height difference is more than 5mm? I have my Sports Seats Plus at their lowest setting and the Sports Buckets in the Spyder I drive felt like sitting on a bar stool!

Can anybody tell the height difference at the lowest level for;

Sport Seats Pus

18 way electrical seats

LWB

I`ve specced y car with the 18 way, I would like to compare. I do like the 18 way because I can lower the front, so my thighs are not that cramped. The low buttock and high leg driving position is not a easy way for me to sit.

I had 18 way in my GTS for 3years and that was fine as a daily, and always felt that they were low.
I have LWB in my GT4 and now that is really on the floor of the chassis.
18 way in the GT4 yesterday actually ruined the car for me. I felt on top of the car. Felt like the roll centre was higher and the car felt big. This compounded with the poor geo set up was not good, but I’m not rubbishing the car it’s just down to set up.
The Spyder with the folding buckets was leagues better for me. But the 918 LWB are best of all for me feeling really plugged into the chassis.

I had a JCR on dearly departed GT3 and it transformed the character of the car..I'm waiting for them to fully develop all options for the GT3 RS OPF and decide what to fit.

Jonny cocker is a pro race driver and which ever car he owns he brings out the best products on the market bar none, tested and run on his own cars and on track with contacts known in the race industry to the highest levels possible.

Really his company makes the best parts Available for any car he owns at the time, be it the Audi TTRS , Nissan GTR and now the GT3. Buying other stuff really is inferior imho.

Thread on Rennlist re preferences for either FBS and LWB, some interesting points, sports buckets get the greater nod for track days as more snug. Also Cantrell make adjustable side mounts for FSBs.

https://rennlist.com/forums/991-gt3-gt3rs-and-911r...

I’ve had both in the past and have gone for FSB on my 718 Spyder. I’ve always found them the more comfortable of the two and as it’s a Spyder I like the heated option, I intend on doing more Euro road trips than track days.

These spacers adjust the more vertically positioned newer fixed buckets to a more reclined position similar to the older folding buckets.

Thanks D, good to know it’s the best as the prices aren’t for the faint hearted. I watch a YT clip of his RS and also fitting out another RS - I wonder if I’m just getting old, but I couldn’t help feeling the noise, although lovely, would become a little tiring over time, but more importantly it turns an already anti social car into a real PITA for anyone (other than the owner) who has to listen to it. As I say, I think I’m just getting old.

Lovely product though and if that’s what you want it seems to do the job very well. I just couldn’t spend the best part of what I imagine would be about £k5 on an exhaust mod,
