Nice colour and brakes
What else did you go for spec-wise?
Brakes are standard, but have terrific bite and pedal feel. What else did you go for spec-wise?
Spec is pretty basic, but perfect for my purposes.... racing yellow painted dash and centre console bits (free!), standard seats (great), Bose, pdc, folding mirrors, yellow seat belts, yellow top stripe on wheel, and a passenger footwell net! I think options cost about the same as first year RFL! It’d clearly be easy to go option crazy, but I didn’t feel the need.
Brilliant, brilliant, car even in “basic dress”

Hi all,
Im in USA and I have a day to decide my spec. I had been waiting for 2 years at a dealer, SA left, emailed 30 dealers in January.... either ADM or lists full, one said he can get me a car sometime this year.
A dealer emailed me yesterday (I know the GM from college but I am a first timer Porsche buyer and low on the totem pole), he told me he has a spot....I was over the moon.
He calls me today and told me it locked !!!! But I can likely still make changes. The lock date was 3/25 and the new lock date was 3/2.
Can you guys help me out? My current daily driver is a Subaru WRX sti and I have an old m3. This would be a weekend car to enjoy and I did skip barber racing school and loved it so I want to try the track again.
Is the base radio ok? I like music and listen to YouTube songs and the radio. Porsche lettering in black or chrome? Anything I'm missing?

Many thanks,.Mike

The base radio is OK, and you guys get SiriusXM® Satellite Radio and HD Radio™ Receiver. Apple Car Play is standard in Europe but you've ticked this box. I'd tick voice control (it's free). Silver belts I would add to you spec plus the black logo as the rest of your exterior options are also black.
Nick
Chalk only works with black accents IMHO. I considered it for my GT4 but decided I didn't like the brown tint to it, it looked very dull and boring in the flesh for a GT car and it was too expensive plus I don't like black wheels. YMMV of course
If you actually plan on using the audio system BOSE is not expensive so I'd probably tick the box. I didn't bother as I very rarely used the audio system in my previous Cayman.

Thanks guys. My wife wants me to get bose. Is it noticeably better? Also she is insisting I get chalk.
Chalk with black wheels does nice. Any customers here check that box?

I’ve gone crayon/chalk on my incoming Spyder with black everything (wheels, logos, callipers, door handles, side stripe) should hopefully be here next week so will try and post then but I appreciate you may not have that long! Chalk with black wheels does nice. Any customers here check that box?
Along came a Spyder...
So collection day finally arrived and the weather was great.
Here are a few initial thoughts (in no particular order) after 85 miles of country roads today + some pic’s.
1. The clutch and steering are much lighter than I was expecting, even compared to my previous manual 718 GTS. Despite the steering initially feeling light (even noticeably lighter than my 992 C4S), it is super super accurate so after a short while soon I re-calibrated and love it.
2. The gear ratio’s, not as much of an issue as you would think given how much all the journalists have mentioned it, perhaps the time with my 718 GTS got me accustomed to working around it.
3. Personally I love the way the 718 Spyder sounds (even with the particulate filters) and I’ve only taken it up to 4.5k so far, it’s not too loud / OTT, just a nice deep/bass type growl that builds... Can’t wait to explore the rest of the rev range.
4. The full buckets, so glad I opted for these, as many have said before, these really do add to the feel and experience of the car... recline angle and lumber support absolutely perfect for me.
5. No issues with ground clearance so far - much better than I was expecting.
6. Throttle response = Instant = Perfect.
7. The suspension and dampers / ride and handling - Probably the area that has impressed me the most so far... with my 718 GTS (SPASM) or current 992 C4S (which has SPASM and PDCC), over certain fast but bumpy country roads, I often felt stuck between the 2 damper modes. Normal being too soft/too much compression and Sport being too firm and jarring/ twitchy. I feel the Spyder (in both Normal and Sport) has that amazing “Lotus Elise/Exige” (I’ve owned both) setup/feeling that can be both firm yet super composed and compliant.
Initial summary, the Spyder feels every bit the opposite to my 992 C4S daily driver that I was hoping... the Spyder asks more of you but then gives so much more back, both cars being awesome at the different respective roles that I purchased them for.
PS. Anyone with a Spyder on the way, when you go to close the roof for the first time, don’t forget to manually open the “Top flaps” first... easily done - They will spring open as the roof rises but it makes raising the roof harder and the Drivers Manual suggests not to do it for risk of damage.
I’ll edit this post and add the pic’s in a bit....
