Nice to hear all the 981 love......
Today I’ve had a 4 hour round drive to drop my lad back to his uni house in my A6 avant.
Then when I got home I thought I’d go out for a quick blast on my motorbike, but my daughter fancied a ride out in the Spyder...... ok let’s do it..... 2 and 1/2 hours later, having driven down the coast and up over Dartmoor, big smiles all around :-)
Now 25k miles on the clock.
Having had 718 GT4 and now an R, it’s still the 981 Spyder that is my keeper, for all the reasons you boys have mentioned above.

There’s a Spyder for everyone

Enjoy

Yep, I've said before that I'd take a 981 Spyder over a 718 version but I'm of the opposite view when it comes to GT4s.

There's a bum for every seat though!

Oh my, stunning. My wife says only one Porsche at a time so I’m selling my 987.2 Spyder.

Indeed. I'm waiting for the PDK option. Hopefully an allocation later or earlier next year for a 718 Spyder.

Nice to see their is plenty of life in the old 3.8 still cool

https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/features/drive-...

It has, for instance, the older 3.8-litre flat six under its engine cover, yet it produces fractionally more power: 420bhp versus 414bhp. Unlike the road car, it has a PDK gearbox, but with its top gear removed, to leave just six.

Further to my earlier posts, I've been to the Susten, Grimsel & Furka passes again in the GT4 and while it is a bit frustrating that I cannot really rev the car out to even the top of second without running risk of a huge speeding fine, it does actually sound pretty good in mountain passes. Done a similar trip in the GT-R and while that is louder (and you have to watch the speedo even more carefully), it doesn't sound as good as the GT4.

The borders open up on Monday so I will soon be able to take the GT4 out for an autobahn blast and film it, if that's still what people want me to do? If so, do you also want a comparison video with the GT-R to give some acceleration reference?
Yes definitely - be great to see that comparison - some awesome footage from the mountain passes and the autobahn blast for sure spin
No video yet - GoPro wasn't charged and need to get a cage mount - but she easily hit 280 km/h (174 mph; speedo reading, so maybe 265-270 km/h (164-168 mph) in reality) on the autobahn today and I wasn't even able to stay on throttle for hugely long (probably a 295-300 km/h (183-186 mph) run possible in the GT-R today but definitely not a double-ton day; too much traffic). Unless you're used to a supercar, or something like a GT-R, Corvette ZR1, or a modified Audi, I really don't think anyone will find her THAT slow once she's on cam.

However, on the twisty roads of the Black Forest, she is so much fun! Far more so than any of the other cars I have owned that could fairly be compared (the GT-R & the Evo). This is where she belongs (as well as on track, obviously)!

I will try to get a combination of video and some real-life performance stats (though I've injured my right shoulder so cannot shift as quickly as I would like) up soon as I have also ordered a Dragy GPS Performance Box too ...

... I’ve also bought a Cargraphics remote valve controller (£390) - using the remote you can select to either have the flaps fully open (always open) or revert to factory controls (Just for early morning starts, can’t piss the neighbours off too much!)...
How are you getting on the the Cargraphic Valve Control Unit? Turns out that they are based less than 250kms away from me and their unit is a third of the price of the Sportec one ...

Cheers!

Hello mate, I wish I could tell you!!

It hasn’t arrived yet - (should be this week). My original plan was getting it fitted at the same time as my JCR exhaust, but I have a feeling the JCR will end being a while yet (I’m chasing an update). Will see how it all pans out this week, but if it means it sitting on the shelf while I wait for the exhaust, I’ll go get it fitted in the meantime.

Can’t wait....

I was reading on an American forum that today PDK would be showing on the Porsche configurator for the 718 Spyder and GT4- I’ve just had a look on the GB configurator and no sign of PDK however I noticed straight away that Python green was an option for the Spyder and it wasn’t yesterday.....

In America however not only is Python green available but also PTS custom colour and PDK !

It's now listed for the GT4 too and Race-Tex seems to be replacing Alcantara...

And the base price has gone up a few quid, as have a few option prices.

These are the 2021 model year changes.

Also heated folding buckets have gone.

Noticed you can spec standard tyres instead of the Cup2's, reassuring to hear that "standard" tyres are now N rated, especially as we use ours all year round!

Now we've got nearly 4000 miles on ours the exhaust is definitely getting louder, obviously still has the flaps closing once you've moved off, but it is subjectively louder than it was.

Folding buckets are an old design, no surprise they've gone.

No tyre option for the GT4, Cup2s only.

I also see the flat tyre foam/compressor is now an option rather than free.

Folding buckets gone is a shame as I found them more comfortable than 918 buckets (would have them on my GT4 if I could) and an open car needs heated seats, so that leaves a must have that you cannot have. Heated buckets should be the first option ticked for a Spyder imo.

No foam / compressor is not so much of a problem in my view as long as you have recovery as once you have used foam the tyre is shot. On the one occasion I needed it, it failed to seal and then had to use recovery, stuck in France in the rain, once recovered to add insult to injury they replaced both rear tyres because of the difference in tread depth.

I agree the foam is a waste of time, I'd never use it and just get recovered should the worst happen.

That's the new Porsche standard price. Was similar on my Touring. It really is taking the piss given cost difference but, hey some people fall for it - like myself

If you look at my last screenshot above PDK is an option under ‘performance’ options I think
