Today I went to the NS with some friends of mine, a 2018 GT3 PDK, a 2020 718 Spyder manual, and mine 2021 718 GT4 PDK.

It was very busy on the BAB, but on some stretches we could let the cars do what they are built for. The car pulls really good to max RPM, the PDK is a blast to drive.

To my surprise and also the Spyder driver; high speed driving on bumpy tarmac does feel a little odd, the car does not feel unstable, but not very road compliant, not as planted for the tarmac as I would have expected. It's really a shake ride.

The GT3 driver however did not feel that at all. So we concluded the GT3 is better suited for bumpy stretches than the 718 Spyder / GT. These cars do like new, flat tarmac far more better.

I must say; the German BAB is not what it used to be, bad road conditions overall IMHO.
Would agree the 991.2 GT3 has a far more compliant ride than the 718 GT4 on poor and undulating road surfaces.

Same with the 991.1 GT3 and 981 GT4.
Thanks for reply!

It confirms my thoughts that the 718 Spyder/GT4 are not high speed, autobahn, racing cars, but better int their habitat on B roads.

More the nature of the car I guess, a go kart is not for high speed driving, it is for steering, like the B road in the Eifel, there is its natural habitat, there is where it is shining.

I don't think it's that black and white, Romo. Plenty of people like the GT4 on track days!

The front ends of GT4s and 991 series GT3s are pretty similar - I would imagine the front shocks are the same on 991.2 GT3s and 718 GT4s? If so, then the differences in compliance would be down to car setup including ride height, PCCBs or not etc.

Everyone, if they pushing their car fairly hard, should get a proper geo setup IMHO.

Thanks. Just to pick this comment up. I'd like splash of colour in the cabin to compliment the red callipers, so I was thinking the red belts with the red 12 o'clock band would do that. I'm not wanting full red stitching, but I do want the leather dash, hence having to go for the silver stitch pack. Sure the belts and door pulls don't match, but that's the only thing. I'll tick the silver/grey belt option instead of red if it's going to be that much of an issue? This is my first Porsche so I don't want to break any cardinal rules! biggrin
You’ll find my old Spyder advertised at Redline for a stupid price right now, but i did the same thing and spec’d silver stitch with red seatbelts and adornments, and it looked class. Have a look at the pics, it works really well.
How much did they bid you for it if you don’t mind me asking?

I sold it privately, the new owner had it a week and took it to Redline and p/ex’d it against a GT4 PDK. Like me, he couldn’t get on with the manual gearbox as much as he liked. I’m guessing we both made money, but i didn’t ask.

What did you not like about it? For me it is one of the best parts of the car! (Maybe not the ratios, but the action)

And a £12K difference between that one and

Is it me or is that first one waaaayy overpriced.

The second one does seem punchily priced.

Both have the clubsport pack but neither has harnesses or the extinguisher fitted. Whoever buys them, if they have their wits about them, will want to ensure the necessary bits are supplied with the car.

One is PDK and one is manual, so one is far rarer currently in 718 GT4 guise. 3 vs 29 for sale.

I am sure the pricing will change as more PDKs make it onto the second hand market.

Yep I should have gone on to pose, is PDK £12K more valued? but yep you are right, its only just hot off the press. Still seems too optimistic to me though £113K for a GT4.

The resale value of the 718 GT4 PDK looks amazing.
This hasn't got carbon brakes or clubsport.
More than £15K over list.

Yep, its the carpet pre-cut for front cage mount points.

Went from Cup 2’s to PS4S. Not regretted the decision.. I hit some very wet twisty roads on Sunday, car handled very nicely with no problems! I think they are essential tyres for this country…

Thanks! What about in the dry when it’s warm? How much are you giving up?
I've got both PS4Ss and Cup2s on different sets of wheels. Cup2s have a stiffer sidewall and more grip from the softer compound. PS4Ss are softer in the corners and heat up much more on a hot day when pressing on.

I use PS4Ss as winter tyres, they're great from Oct/Nov to Mar/Apr as Cup2s don't like cold and wet!
How are the 4Ss for road noise? I find the GT4 has surprisingly high road noise on OEM Cup2s, especially from the rear.

Fairly similar, although with so many other noises going on it's hard to pinpoint exactly what's making what noise.

You don't buy a GT car for silent cruising so it's exactly what I was expecting, personally.

Thanks. Good to know. I won’t rush to swap the tyres then. There certainly are a big range of noises and many of them good! It’s the noisiest car I’ve had and my expectations where set with previous cars including gt3s and a 981 gt4.
