Thanks for that. I know the JCR with the manifolds sounds amazing but it’s £££££.
Food for thought
No problem.Food for thought
You need to be careful swapping manifolds and over axle pipes on these cars. You'll most likely get a check engine light on the dash which will need coding out, so that's an ECU hack and a definite warranty issue. Changing the emissions output by reducing the cats or GPF's effects could make your car illegal too without mentioning the problems you may have getting insurance.
IMHO changing the rear silencer only is the way to go if you just want a bit more noise and character. The ECU will adjust accordingly without any intervention and there are plenty of options out there to choose from.
I'd like to hear a JCR silencer in the flesh at some point, just to see how it sounds and if it truly has no drone when pottering about.

Did you find it droned at all between 2k - 3k revs with the roof up?
Not specifically in that Rev range really. The only time I noticed any real drone with it was when lightly on the throttle through the 50mph average speed sections of the M4. That may well have been in that rev range but didn’t notice it any other time except then strangely. ETA: sorry just re-read your question - I drove my spyder almost entirely with roof down so can’t answer your specific question accurately I’m afraid.

I was just curious to see if JCR had found the magic formula for exhausts on the 4.0 but it seems that maybe there isn't one. Roof up would simulate a GT4 cabin which is why I asked about that specifically, as it will increase the chances of any resonance and be a similar comparison to my car.
Sorry to hear you've sold your Spyder, but I guess you got a great price for it in the current climate!

What do they resell for out of interest?

I only know of one that has been offered for resale and sold privately. That went for £4400 but at that time there were very long lead times and delays with JCR which I’m not sure is still the case so hard to say really as there aren’t any available that I can find.G
just to save me reading 325 pages , I have Been looking at getting a 718 Spyder but first conversation with OPC doesn't look exactly promising due to a lack of new car purchases and lack of allocations, has everyone here that has ordered all had previous with the dealer or is it possible to get as a new buyer?
Ironically I went down this path when I tried to buy a new 981 Spyder back in 2015 but had the same issues and was lucky enough to find and ended up buying a 500 mile car privately close to the spec I was after.
I am open to buying used again but have noted over the last couple months there has been 14 Spyders for sale in the UK all are manuals and all appear to have been advertised for a good while some up to 4 months, all way over list and the non OPC cars are approaching the end of the warranty period so do not look exactly good buys which I am guessing why they have not sold?
I initially favoured PDK and ideally would prefer a yellow or possibly guards red car hence when looking at used it becomes an uphill struggle to get exactly what I am after . Dealer has suggested a GTS 4.0 which I am not totally against but prefer the looks of Spyder although the ease of the gts roof would appeal.
So having owned a 981 Spyder obviously manual is there much difference in driving the 718 as I did find the lack of zing from the 3.8 motor and long legged manual box a little frustrating and was wondering if the new 4.0 and PDK box helped things any ?

I can only really help with the last bit. The new 4.0L motor is a peach and much much better than the 3.8L which I thought drove like a high performance diesel engine. Lots of torque in the mid range and then a disappointing top end, no zip. Ironically I went down this path when I tried to buy a new 981 Spyder back in 2015 but had the same issues and was lucky enough to find and ended up buying a 500 mile car privately close to the spec I was after.

As for the PDK I am due to collect my new B25 one this month and I am looking forward to finding out if it’s any better a fit to the engine than my manual Spyder.
I do know that as of a couple of weeks ago on the Porsche dealer system the current GT4 and the Spyder are grayed out on the screen with a note saying “no longer available to order”. Make of that what you will but I suspect that if you do not have an order in and accepted / allocated then you will struggle to order one to your spec.
I have recently tried to order a new Spyder and can confirm that while they were on the configurator you cannot currently place an order.
My OPC contacted Porsche but could not get confirmation that the order book would reopen next year and I had been told that production of the Spyder / GT4 was due to cease in 2022.

that's a bugger. I did ask the sales guy at the one I contacted and he didnt think production was likely to stop. My OPC contacted Porsche but could not get confirmation that the order book would reopen next year and I had been told that production of the Spyder / GT4 was due to cease in 2022.
My only option may be to keep an eye on used see if anything comes up Second hand.
