I'm looking to change my 987 Gen 2 to a 981 with apple play unit fitted. Can someone please reassure a 60+ Luddite that it'll be reasonably straightforward to operate coupled up to an iPhone 6S?

Just to add to this thread after first discovering the possibility of retro-fitting Apple carplay to a 991.1 in this forum.

I ordered the kit for my 991.1 GTS from Nick at NMautomative and had it installed by Sextons in Wandsworth. Very happy with it, firstly the install is invisible and the carplay module is very discreetly accessed via a long press of the "info" button on the PCM. Nick was great at explaining the functionality and Sextons did a fantastic job of the install, couldn't tell they had been in the car.

I basically wanted to do it because I decided I'll probably keep the car for a couple more years (having had it for 3 years and still enjoying it) and the only thing missing from it was up to date infotainment. This has solved that problem and you can't even tell it's been installed.

just wanted to share as am very happy and would recommend.

Anyone with OPC warranty had this fitted?
Does it affect warranty at all, apart from the obvious.

yes it will technically affect the warranty, but you wouldn't know it is fitted unless you specifically looked for it. I have a year left on my extended warranty but to be honest I took the risk as I just wanted the better infotainment.

if you want to be 100% safe and keep warranty fully intact, you cant really install this

By any chance does it show the maps in the binnacle like the standard pcm nav?

Would be cool if one of you guys could post up a demo video of it in action on the Porsche PCM. smile

I’ve been trying to fit a car play unit to a Cayman R today! It’s not gone well frown

Bought a Pioneer 130DAB unit and then got a fitting kit from a local place who I’d spent 30 mins on the phone to in order to get the right kit!

Took the car apart today which was very easy to do, anyway the connects2 fibre lead is an iso lead not a quadlock... went to an audio place near to where I am today (not near home) guy gives me another quadlock fibre lead to try, all connects up but doesn’t power up at all!

It’s going to be fun getting it to work and looks great when it’s in place! Just gotta get it working.

Anyone managed to get it to work on a 987.2 car with Bose?

The carplay update in next months IOS13 can in theory use the supplementary display. Will have to see if it works on this retrofit compared to an OEM version

You need to get power from the fuse box, the car's built in radio power doesn't work on aftermarket units.

Thread resurrect!

Now these have been around for a few years, are you all still happy with the system.

I'm considering fitting it to a new to me 991 and want to check it is still the best system to put in.

Thanks

News of late is that people are opting for

https://www.smart-tuning.co.uk/

no extra box to install and takes only 1hr to install. They come to you to install.
Anyone here had it fitted?

For a BMW maybe, but no extra box for Porsche is needed. Your image is a red herring as that is a completely different car brand.
