GT4 RS breaks cover then...

Another indication of slight sandbagging on the GT4RS along with the same width tyres as the GT4/Spyder, slightly lower BHP etc?

Well. The platform is hamstrung by its rear suspension, so fitting the diff isn’t ultimately what will make the difference. Ideally the car needed multi-link rear suspension. Then it really would be a threat to the the 3RS. Porsche, the masters of marketing and product placement, doing what they do best
I like the fact it's so different to the regular GT4 - they really are chalk and cheese rather than being a GT4 'plus'.
Initially I thought I'd want one more and more as time went on, but in fact the opposite has happened. As I said yesterday on another thread it's great that Porsche built it so that the lucky few have the choice of having one!

It feels very different from the 718GT4 from a driving POV. I have a Manual 718GT4 CS as well which is a truly fantastic car in its own right with possibly the best Manual change in the business. The 718GT4 also seems to have an abundance of torque from low to mid-range compared to the 4RS although my 4RS seems to be very tight still.
Over 5k revs the 4RS comes into its own. The noise the 4RS makes sends goose pimples down your spine whereas a stock GT4 sounds very quiet in comparison. As a road only car, I think the GT4 is better as It's a lot more refined in both ride quality and noise obviously. The GT4's sublime Manual gearbox gives it a layer of interaction no PDK can hope to match no matter how brilliant it is.
On balance, I'd prefer if my 4RS had the same Manual as the GT4 albeit with the same low ratios as the 4RS.

Probably would be course specific. On tight courses with not many high speed corners... maybe?
But generally would still not be as quick over and long also with lots of high speed corners or say an N'Ring lap, as 992 3RS - but might be a bit closer to 992 GT3.
With a multilink rear it would be somewhere between 991.2 GT3 and the 991.2 GT3 RS.
911s still has much fatter rubber front + rear for more mechanical grip and engine over the rear wheels for massive grip out of corners.

For me - i think the 4RS is very cool - and is the perfect culmination of a journey for the platform. Over 5k revs the 4RS comes into its own. I have the 4RS covered from a chassis perspective - but it really is the drivetrain that makes the difference.
If i could spec one now - I'd try to get it in the new Vanaduim Grey Metallic Spyder RS launch colour - Perfect.

If Porsche did put the fancy rear suspension and diff on the GT4RS, would it be faster than the GT3RS? Assuming power to weight was the same?
The 4RS is quicker in a straight line over a certain speed but the 3RS is much much faster going around any corner due to extra grip.I spoke to a guy at Oulton who had recently returned from a track day at the Ring. He had a new 3RS in front for a while and his GT4 RS was pulling on it on the long straights but the 3RS was much faster on the corners. In fact, the 3RS had so much grip the driver hardly touched the brakes as it just had more and more grip the faster it went around the corners.

I’m not sure the GT3RS sounds much fun with all that grip. I think I’d take the 4RS TBH.
That is really a key difference between the 911 and Cayster platforms ... one is ruthlessly fast, with high limits, the other isn't quite as fast, but is more fun and accessible.Gassing Station | Boxster/Cayman | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
