718 Engine - This made me think...
Discussion
I think the problem they have now is that whatever they do with the new F6 model(s) they've hamstrung themselves with the power output on the GT4/Spyder which in itself is somewhat hamstrung by the 911. They can't get too close to them because it'll cannibalise sales there and take way some kudos from the halo models.
At the other end they need to make it more appealing that the current offering otherwise (apart from the obvious points made by the F6 fans) what's the point.
My guess and I think most logical since this is likely to coincide with a range refresh is that the current F4's will continue in the Base and S models with perhaps slight power increases and the GTS will go F6 with more power that the current GTS to give the incremental increase expected. I suspect that to keep interest you might see a number of other enhancements introduced with the 992 and this could include things like the new dash/console if they really want to see sales go up.
If this happens I'd expect the GTS to come later this year or even early next year to keep us in suspense. Of course they could offer further niche F6 models next year (Touring anyone) to maximise the investment returns.
All speculation of course but in this game my guess is as good as anyone else.

This is all very useful. Against all this, is getting a £15k discount (47k instead of 62k) for a specced base model PDK with zero miles good value? I’d say about £12k of that spec is of value.
Or is it just to be expected if there is a model refresh. I have no context of historic discounts.

Mate, if that was me and it had everything I wanted in the right colour with the right wheels I'd buy it. Or is it just to be expected if there is a model refresh. I have no context of historic discounts.

ETA: was interesting to see the base can be tuned to beat the mooted new F6 GTS and the S/GTS can be tuned over and above the GT4 fairly easily. That, and the torque characteristics of FI will see some red faces around the track given the difference in prices vs the NA lol.
How's the mileage on yours btw Highway ? Will you be posting on the 120k thread soon...?
Not for another 50k my friend... a load more of the sort of miles I like, the way I like it. If I’d wanted one of the fastest things I have stuff with TTs, bought a TT RS and tuned the sh!te out of it. How's the mileage on yours btw Highway ? Will you be posting on the 120k thread soon...?
You really don’t get tired of telling us yours is faster the ours do you, it’s quite funny really. Outright speed has never been what it’s about for me but if that’s you thing, great. Enjoy. They’d be nothing worse than have a car you don’t like eh
I'm still loving mine, but unlike you I put on too many miles. I always thought the old one had so much more potential, and now it finally has the power to match the chassis.

£15k of options on a base model is crazy. You won't get that back on resale, but if you're getting all that kit for £3k it's a good deal if you want all that stuff on the 2.0 model.Or is it just to be expected if there is a model refresh. I have no context of historic discounts.
I'd be more inclined to ask for £15k off a stripper spec base model at around £50k taking it down to £35k...

It’s true but then when you add PDK, the metallic paint, parking sensors and bigger wheels that’s a couple of k.I'd be more inclined to ask for £15k off a stripper spec base model at around £50k taking it down to £35k...

That's the thing, I can't see Porsche repeating this 'mistake' with the S at least (which it is in sales terms if not technically).
'17 and '18 718 sales were strong, pretty much in line with 981 sales and certainly nothing like the nonsense we regularly read on here about volumes crashing. Also we won't have the '19 results for a bit yet, but I think it's safe to say as the third year from launch to expect a slight reduction.Market is quiet at the moment, Macan's, 992s etc are also being tipped as having discounts. If you can actually get 20% off I'd be pulling their arm off lol.
But never let facts get in the way of the usual myths and gibberish perpetuated by jonttt....
To be fair discounts on Caysters isn't a new phenomenon. They were doing a £2K deposit contribution and very attractive trade ins when we bought our 981 Cayman 4 years ago. It's just they are now more attractive on the 718. That could all change with the refresh and if demand picks up globally.
As for residuals if the cheapest secondhand 718 is £30K and cost circa £55K new that still 55% retained value which is hardly a disaster compared with the like of BMW/MB/VAG.

That's pretty much the deal I got although mine only had 16 miles on it when I picked it up and was being built when I handed over the deposit. When you think how capable the car is it's a relative bargain.
HiCould you possibly DM/email me the dealer info as I’m interested too
Thanks

Hi all. I’ve been following this thread. I currently have a JCW Mini which I’m bored with (have been driving Minis since 2008). I drive in the city and mostly at low speed (annoyingly).
I was wanting to switch to Porsche and actually liked the drive with the 618. Was going to take a bit more time to think about it but my local dealer has offered me a pre-reg car with 25% off (basically £47k but with all the spec included).
What do you guys think of this, value vs 4 pot. Was debating whether to wait for the next iteration, but also think this could be value.
Any thoughts on the 4 pot for city driving also appreciated.
Thank you!

I suspect there may be some embellishment going on here, or I don't know what people are speccing them with to lose value, but in my view you'll rarely get any money back on options and crazy mileages will shed value on any car.Out of interest at three years I had a 70% residual per WBAC and it hadn't actually moved that much based on re-running it this morning after reading this thread.

I've done quite a bit to my Mini and kept it much longer than anticipated as it is such fun with the mods (Ohlins/AEM induction kit/Akrapovic DP/Manic Stage 2 tune/TTV racing clutch/Quaiffe diff/Cobras on the way..) It was supposed to make way for a 981 GT4, but that didn't happen. Mine's a bit older than yours but they repond very well to a bit of fettling. More info over on the Mini forum.
