With thanks to members who sent link to track ship delivering their vehicle, I too see the City of Rotterdam on its way to Grimsby. Quite exciting tracking your new cars journey!

Foy guys receiving your cars from dealers, do you let the dealer prepare your car, or are any of you getting independent detailers to prepare and, for example, ceramic coat or PPF your new toy?

I was considering getting mine ceramic coated before it touched the open roads.
Just checked with my dealer and my car is on the boat. I have booked it in locally to get PPF and Ceramic coating but Porsche use a reputable outfit themselves so waiting for a quote as that will make life much easier. We discussed picking it up next week.

Alternatively, buy a 'new' GT4 for the same money. Frustrates me why no one has really used it!

I couldn't agree with you more, i wanted a 718 GT4 was was told there was none available for me.. yet i see so many now for sale with 150-1500 miles on just 6 months after i asked the question.
I could've had the GTS but the pricing was set far too high for me once i had added my essential options it was more than a GT4.

Had mine ceramic coated by the dealer as a surprise freebie. It’s not something I would have considered doing in any event, same as PPF. That said, now I’ve had it, I’d get it again, although I’d be more inclined to have a specialist do it with a full paint detail beforehand. It’s stood up well to stone chips, not had any with the exception of one stone kicked up by another car that managed to go through the paint on the bumper completely and put a dent in the windscreen as it bounced up.

Out of curiosity, why no PPF? not even on the front? Good to hear why, for a balanced view on PPF, as all I hear is "You must get PPF!"

Not sure if PPF worth it when I had in January, my 981 front bumper repainted by a Porsche approved repairer/paintshop for £420.00 plus vat!!!

hmmm, that is good point. If I take Topaz's prices for example, the front, rear fenders and side skirts comes in approx £2K....and £2K would go a long way in respray touch ups.

Seems a lot more pricey than a ceramic coating. So far I’ve found the protection level offered good, other than the rock which hit me. I don’t know if the result would have been much different with PPF. The only PPF covered car I’ve looked at closely was a GT3, which had a lot of visible holograms on the bodywork which I was told was down to the PPF. I guess things may have moved on and it might not have been a quality job. I also find the beading and cleaning good with ceramic, not sure what it’s like with PPF.

PPF costs are high, and can see some edges and joins. You can see a slightly different finish and holograms are possible - though detailers can improve finish of the film. The self healing is good but doesn’t last forever and healing layer can wear out. It would have cost original owner £2,500 or so for impact zones and full front. But it has kept mine fairly free of stone chips, now it’s 5 years old there are a few blemishes.

Ceramic coating just makes washing easier and maintains gloss but can still scratch and marr despite the claims if not washed properly. When you need to polish out a scratch you’ll need a pro to top up the finish.

Good detail is a must imo. Ceramic coating will be done, but I’m still on fence for PPF. Respray costs being far less. It’s really only bumper and bonnet that get most battering. I might do sills and rear bumper edges though to reduce road rash

I have had PPF on my last two Boxsters . I only had front bumper, mirrors, side sills and bottom of rear arches done. Cost in the region of £600 . It has worked well. In both cases I did pick up one tiny chip on the unprotected bonnet but that is in 10 years ! The first car I had it one was a white spyder which I kept for 8 years and the PPF was just beginning to start yellowing So good performance in my view. I had ceramic coating on my daily Macan as it is kept in the open ( the boxsters were/are garaged) That certainly makes cleaning easier and protects a little against bird lime and sap. It does not offer any protection against chips though

Looks like someone's bought that GT4. Anyone here?

I've had cars with and without PPF and kind of agree that you're doing it for the next owner. Having said that I didn't have it on my 12C and got a huge chip in the middle of the bonnet, the quote to fix was huge due to the Volcano paint.

My Lotus that had it were spotless underneath the PPF and small areas were replaced at resale at a much smaller cost than a respray or the whole front end PPF.

I'm having the Boxster done because all the blue cars I have owned in the past have had white undercoat so chips really show.

Evening..

Been lurking since Feb/March, when I backed-off ordering a Cayman, as the dealers closed.

Just been called and offered an October build, so my head is spinning with thoughts, questions, poor memories of what I actually settled on as the last code before Lockdown.

Any top tips on refocussing my attention to help my early morning decision Tomorrow am ? I guess October will mean a 2021 build ? What gets added and taken away with the 2021 model ?

Off to to look up my notes....

Has any one looked at insurance yet? According to Parker’s the GTS 4.0 is insurance group 46, the 2.5 is quoted as being insurance group 48, go figure!

The configurator is now based on 2021 model build. Not many changes in UK Heated seats now standard for example.

I was quoted slightly more than I currently pay for my 718 S. Apparently the increase was due to the manual gearbox (!?) rather than the higher value.

Base price seems up about £400. Latest config added about £2k. Not sure what the major difference is (no itemised cost comparison saved), but bucket seats seem more expensive than I recall @ £ 3.7 k

Nice black GT4 on sale @ £ 94k

If it's the same as the GT4, the base price is up a few hundred and several options are up a bit in price too. To replicate my GT4 now it would be around £800 more expensive. Not sure why a GTS 4.0 would go up £2k though - that's a massive jump!
