Any thoughts on whether to order the -20 or -10 (or +10mm as Porsche calls it) suspension? No interest in track work...
I myself wondered but went with the standard -20 and it is absolutely fine. I ordered my car in August and got it in October. I similarly took advice on here (not to change it) and I am glad I took that advice - so I pass it on! Porsche know what they are doing on that one. (Unlike BOSE which is a total scandal. So unsolicited advice: save your £800+ and with the change get dimming mirrors, a heated steering wheel and reversing camera. I also got lane warning which is worth every penny.)
I think lane assist and warning is for people who cant drive in a straight line or between road lines ,keep falling asleep at the wheel or cant be bothered to look over their shoulder?
Only bonus is people have to indicate before manoeuvre.

-20 is absolutely fine, rides very well with PASM on comfort. Sport if you have a smooth backroad. I was also worried because my drive is on a slope but at -20 I have had no issues. Car sits very well, at -10 it may look slightly odd.

It may be worth saying that Lane Change Assist code 457 is a blind spot monitoring system that does not in any circumstances try to steer the car. For cars with compromised rear quarter visibility it is a warning system that appears in the driver’s peripheral vision.

@tedblog. You seem needlessly dismissive in your posts on this site unlike most others who are pretty courteous. All the lane warning assist does is illuminate red on the inside door mirror. It has nothing to do with "driving in a straight line". For those of us who drive on the busy M25 and have been cut up once too often by lorries overtaking on the inside, it adds extra security and safety. I once hired a car in the US with it and I thought it was superb. For lots of drivers it will be unnecessary.

Absolutely not im all for safety aids but not ones where it makes drivers lazy and they rely on them and not take the necessary precautions they would of if they didnt have them?

I would imagine that tedblog is probably thinking of safety aids like ABS, traction and stability control, airbags, seatbelts - all things that either help you exploit the performance of the car and/or mitigate the effects should the worst happen.

Unless of course he thinks that all of the above are for lazy drivers and that everyone should cadence-brake, drive right up to but not beyond the limits of physics, and replace the centre of the steering wheel with a rusty spike wink

wink
Agree with all above along with active cruise.
Lane departure and blind spot detection make you lazy when you should be concentrating staying in your lane or looking in your mirrors and then looking over your shoulder as the way you used to be taught?

Just got the confirmation from my dealer that my 4.0 PDK went into production ("pre-production", to be exact), expected completion date 25 March, and 3 weeks to have the car in the UK from that date. I placed my order in first week of January.
Can't wait!

My 718 Spyder sold today and I placed an order for a boxster gts4.0. March 22 they are saying. So a small wait. But that’s fine.

Out of interest what’s the reason for switching from the 718 Spyder to the Boxster GTS 4.0? I’m making the switch from a cayman GTS 4.0 to a 718 Spyder.

It’s a mixture of things, but the main reason is I’m buying a manual 991.2gt3 so imho the gts makes a better car to run along side.

Having driven both on the road I can’t really tell enough of a difference between the gts and spyder to warrant the £15k difference. On track it’s a different matter but then I’ll use the gt3.

Also, and this is not to be underestimated, the auto roof on the gts just makes it a better daily. The roof on the spyder is easy and takes about 30 secs but I almost daily mine and with changeable conditions always nice just to be able to put it up.

If it was my only nice car then spyder for the win, just look at it, but with something more focussed in the garage the ease of the roof and slightly softer suspension and 15k saving is worth it over the slight increase in performance and the better looks.

Also for me it’s nice to spec a car to my exact spec which I can do on the gts.

The spyder is still a wonderful road car!

I have a Boxster GTS 4.0 on order but impatience is making me consider the instant gratification of a 718 Spyder. Be good to know what people think - worth waiting for the Boxster or not...?

Nicely specked, and great colour combination!
I've placed a similar order back in December, still don't know any build dates. So a bit confused with how inconsistent they are.

So my dealer has 5 people waiting for a boxster gts, I’m the 6th. They only know they are getting one boxster gts slot so far this year in may. The rest of this years allocation has not been released to them, so they think christmas/March time for me. If it comes at Christmas I’ll wait until March anyway as I spend January/feb in South Africa

Oh, you mean March 2022? I see. So yes, from what I heard so far that sounds sensible for new orders

Boxster gts is indeed a right sorry state...

It is frustrating that so many demo and pre reg caymans around and so few Boxsters! I’d even consider a ragged demo lol
