I took a Cayman GTS 4.0 for a test drive yesterday, so wanting to fall in love with it and prepped to place an order, even though very long lead times, however, I was shocked at the cabin noise, the engine noise was great but the road noise was shocking.... above 70 a phone call could not happen, at 80 a raised voices required....Is this normal, I tried the A110S and it was much quieter, but not as classy or well finished! Just causing me to rethink!
Well for starters you shouldn’t be driving 80mph so I think that goes to show this car is not for you.Springermad said:

If you want less road noise then get a Boxster rather than a Cayman. The Cayman cabin extends over the rear wheel arches meaning a lot more road noise comes into the cabin. A 718 Boxster GTS4.0 is a surprisingly refined place to be on a motorway. Springermad said:

You might consider an Evora too. Pricey, but a better motorway companion and (imo) makes even nicer noises than the Cayman. If you are thinking A110, in the standard car the ride isn't "busy" in the way the S is on the motorway.kilarney said:

Once you get the revs up a bit perhaps you would let us know top off 2nd and 3rd.
2nd seems to top out around 75mph give or take. 3rd I was too busy focusing on the [private] road....Manual 2nd 83mph 3rd 114mph
Thank you all for the comments.... as for driving above 80 mph, I have done it regularly when driving over to Frankfurt and Bamberg on business! So all good and not a problem, just in the UK... decided to go for it, so an order for PNAI5PM3 duly placed!
If it proves to be a pain then at least one item of the bucket list. Kind regards...

When I drove one, I just focussed on the wonderful engine noise. Didn’t really notice the road noise but then with the engine just behind you it is likely to be the dominant noise. The previous Boxter I owned was fine once you were in a steady state with the caveat that it is a convertible sports car so Cayenne levels of hush are not to be expected. My current 992 has a quieter engine (and exhaust) than the Boxter which means that the ever present road noise is more noticeable but just bearable and once you start enjoying its capabilities it isn’t an issue.Springermad said:

Having owned a Cayman GTS 4.0 since August last year I can honestly say that this has not been a problem for me, apart from initially as I has a dash rattle that got rectified. I think it depends on your use-case: if this is a car for you to get from A to B then maybe the noise might get grating but if this is a car for driving and you have another car for travelling then it's a non-issue.I see you have made your order now: you will not regret it.
