Customer: "Do you remember the 80's movie: Condorman? With the chase scene with the black 930 flatnose?"Porsche Salesman: "Why, yes sir."
Customer: "Well I want to spec my GTS just like the car in that chase...."
Porsche Salesman: "Just like the car in Condorman? Got it..."
Well, she’s here and I’m somewhat blown away. Having only test driven the 2.5l GTS prior to ordering I can say that after only being out for a few miles this was hands down the right choice.
Initial impressions: it is LOUD. I don’t know if we have different OPF rules out here but absolutely zero complaints on the noise front. The mechanical engine noise is something I will get used to but it’s lots of whirring which is no doubt accentuated because it’s right behind my head. Suspension is plenty stiff on the standard setting. The build quality in general is very very good. I see a lot of notes that the Cayman has gotten too expensive but to be honest I absolutely see where the money is in this. Everything about it feels premium.
Im not sure whether laugh or scream I had a confirmed build slot for week 20 , today OPC has advised that car didnt get built but they dont why at this point and are trying to find out why , they know it didnt get built but dont know why WTF , according to OPC they get advised on a Tuesday about their previous weeks allocations if thats true its appalling , if its not going to be built shouldnt they/me be told before not after

That is bad luck ! You have my sympathy.I don’t think that bit about Tuesday notifications is true. I have a Spyder on order and my OPC contacted me last Thursday to say that car had been completed two days earlier and contacted me again yesterday to say that car was at the port awaiting a ferry. They have an online tracking system where they can monitor these things. A friend of mine has a GT 3 on order which was due to be built last week and his was’t completed. He was told that it was due to a micro chip shortage. Another person I know of has just ordered a Macan for December build and he had to accept manual adjustment on passenger seat - again due to micro chip shortage. So this is clearly causing problems for Porsche production .

I’ve been waiting for a new Cayenne, with the chip shortage being blamed for the delay. Porsche are not alone in suffering. One theory is that it results from huge demand for gaming consoles during the lockdowns!
TSMC's biggest customers are Apple, Huawei, Nvidia, etc., and they are all being hit by this global chip shortage. Car manufacturers are way down the list in terms of importance for them really so I doubt things are going to improve any time soon.OPOGTS said:
And it my experience it gets louder as your run it in....
I’m at 2k miles so, the car is absolutely stunning, superb.
Enjoy.
I've noticed the same thing, am nearly at 3k and over the last 1k miles it has definitely woken up somehow in terms of sound. There seem to be more odd burbles (not loud, just there if you're listening) that I don't remember hearing before. I’m at 2k miles so, the car is absolutely stunning, superb.

Same here. Just coming up to 3K on the clock and it has got noticeably louder. CardiffTam said:

I test drove a Python Green Cayman GTS 4.0 last week. I think it’s safe to say that it’s the best car I’ve ever driven (although I haven’t driven that many)!
Since selling my manual C2S 997.1 in Feb, I’ve been on the lookout for a replacement and put down a deposit on a GR Yaris thinking that I’d have more fun overall if I had a fun daily that I could use all year round. I was offered a Yaris at the end of the month and so test drove it a week or so ago. I took my wife and kids and predictably there wasn’t much room in the back. No-one particularly loved it. I couldn’t heel and toe, the piped noise wasn’t great and the seating position too high (all the common stuff). However the urgency of the engine and performance was all great but I didn’t really get to test the handling. It wasn’t the best test drive experience (my fault since it was rushed and with the whole family) whereas I took the GTS out by myself and so possibly that helped my enjoyment! Gear change, engine and seating position all massively better in my opinion.
There is a pretty decent difference in cost (30k or so). My feeling is that I would prefer to keep my up as a run around (we have a family/dog car as well) and give myself a chance of getting the GTS in say 6 months when my finances should be in a better position. The problem is I feel slightly guilty that my fun car would be something that I can’t take my 2 kids in at the same time. I thought I wanted a 993 but I test drove one and didn’t warm to it (although it was literally just up the road with the salesman with me and so not the most useful experience). I can’t get the GTS out of my head and so two questions:
1. Those with kids - do you still get to use a 2 seater with kids as they start having different interests or does it feel a bit unused at weekends?
2. Is there a 911 with back seats that can broadly compare with the experience I had with the Cayman GTS? I appreciate that they are totally different in driving feel given the engine layout but I was wondering if, for example a 997 GTS or Carrera T would give the same excitement from gearbox and engine? I haven’t driven loads of cars but I can’t just keep on test driving different ones indefinitely! Maybe it’s just the small size, mid engine layout and new feel that I liked and so I should accept no substitute...
I’m cancelling my GR Yaris order tomorrow which is focussing my mind!

4 kids. None of them wanted to be in the back of my 997.2 C4S ever. And it didn’t thrill me as a weekend car. So looked at Boxster 4.0 GTS and settled in a 981 Spyder which I love. Taking one child at a time is fine. We have other things for when more than 2 of is need to go somewhere. I test drove a Python Green Cayman GTS 4.0 last week.
