I ruled out buckets first. They are fun on a track day but really impractical for a road car and you can’t spec them with the natural leather interior, which is the biggest ‘difference-maker’ imho.

Life is too short to adjust my seat in 18 different directions (also they are very heavy), the cheapest 2-ways are superb seats, every bit as good as the best Porsche seats from the 80s/90s, I had them on my 991.2 GTS and was very happy with the choice, so picked them again.

I put the £3k down end of March and the dealer showed me their internal document with expected delivery times for every model, for the 4.0 Boxster GTS it was showing Q4 2023. Oddly the Cayman 4.0 GTS was Q1 2023.

As epic as the GTS 4.0 is, and whilst I'm sure you're all driving something interesting in the meantime, you gents have some incredible patience waiting these time frames for a car.

I can't stomach the second hand prices across the board at the moment, and almost all interesting new cars have ridiculous wait times unfortunately!

I’m expecting that the wait time will come down. The dealer told me they’re trying to manage expectations which i think is another way of saying worst-case scenario.

They told me they had two others in front of me without an allocation right now, i really can’t believe that equates to 18 months wait but who knows. It is what it is, and worth the wait.

...I think you'll find the salesman was doing exactly what you would expect them to do, that is, to keep your interest up in a product they can't currently guarantee to supply. And who can blame them?, that's exactly their job...

Maybe I'm jaded wink

When we collected our Cayman GTS last month, our sales chap said they weren't expecting to see another one this year. There were three people waiting on allocations.

They were due to receive a Boxster GTS within a week or two. That is also their only one this year.

I feel quite lucky we only had a 10 month wait!

I’m a fairly patient person but waiting for something that *may* happen, if you can get on a list, in 12-18 months is beyond me – I commend anyone who can, I hope you’ve got a fun car to keep you occupied in the meantime!

On the basis that my other car is a Tesla M3P (the future is fast but bleak), I picked up a 4.0 GTS last month, paid list at 14 months old, 3k miles. I may take a hit, I may not, life is too short.

If anyone is looking at spec, my 2 cents:

Stereo – buy the standard/cheap one, the tyre noise is so loud on anything other than a new surface that the quality of the stereo must be indistinguishable, I have BOSE, sounds okay when you’re stationary.

Seats – 2 way are perfect, I cant see the logic in upgrading unless you have a particular anatomical/medical need, the buckets seem overkill outside a track GT4

Trim – Personal preference, I’m not a fan of the GTS carbon/stitching, looks OTT for my taste. Leather wheel without controls is perfect – I test drove a car with wheel controls and found my fingers couldn’t sit where I wanted them, everything is to hand anyway, plus it’s so loud you cant hear a call properly, see earlier comment re stereo.

Gearbox – The manual is sublime, back to basics driving

Short of track use, I can't see why anyone would want/need a GT4 other than bragging rights. The GTS is an astounding car.

Interesting thoughts on tyre noise - on the contrary I’m pretty impressed (but maybe I’m accustomed to it?)

Are you on the standard PS4s?

Interesting. I didn’t spec the Bose but thought that was a mistake after 2000 miles as the standard stereo struggles against the road noise.

It made me re spec the car I was 1 day away from ordering 18 months ago. Ahhhh man I'd still love one. I dumped the GTS package, I think its too fussy.

My spec was already quite cheap (in anticipation of the price increase and not wanting the expensive GTS interior). The price went from 66.7k to 68k, but we now get cruise (as already stated) and the tyre repair kit; so about £300 worth of stuff that was not standard, but now is. I also noticed that Dolomite Silver is no longer an option but has been replaced by the more expensive Ice Grey Metallic. Hmm... If there is another increase between now and when I lock the spec in I may jump ship. Those Emira's will start to look even nicer.

Lots of lovely specs and pictures in this thread, but the white car with silver wheels and red calipers from many pages ago is the one that stood out. The configurator does little for white cars so I have to refer to the picture of that car to remind myself of how stunning it actually is. Here is my spec if you're interested. I've not bothered with auto air-con as even when I do have it, I adjust it just as much as I did in my previous 981s, that didn't.

Not at all, in my opinion you made the right choice, I can't believe the BOSE is any better, and certainly not in any way that makes 'listening' to music more enjoyable.

P-Zero's mad

Regarding perception, perhaps that's it. I have a Tesla which is quiet, previous to that an X3MC and an M2, it would be interesting to drive an M2 back to back with the GTS to get a better sense.

Just to put my waiting experience into the mix, I placed an order and deposit for a Boxster GTS 4.0 in March 2021 and have been number one on my OPC's waiting list since July 2021 and I still do not have an allocation. So my wait is going to be a minimum of 18 months in reality for a car ordered 13 months ago now. And things have got worse since. At least they are going to be a very rare breed!
