Just to put my waiting experience into the mix, I placed an order and deposit for a Boxster GTS 4.0 in March 2021 and have been number one on my OPC's waiting list since July 2021 and I still do not have an allocation. So my wait is going to be a minimum of 18 months in reality for a car ordered 13 months ago now. And things have got worse since. At least they are going to be a very rare breed!
So, assuming they are telling you the truth, they haven’t had a single Box GTS allocation in 9 months, that’s just bonkers. Maxxsirrah said:

This would mirror my experience, I placed my order at the begining of June 21 and at the time I was number 2 on their list for a BGTS 4.0, 10 months later I was still number 2 on the list, they have also not received a single Spyder in that time either. I have cancelled and bought a used 718 Spyder instead.I was told yesterday that the order time for a CGTS 4.0 is 12-14 months, for a BGTS 4.0 it is 24 months plus!!

I put a deposit down for a BGTS ( http://www.porsche-code.com/PPL8UM36 ) in late July 21 and was told I was number 2 on the list with an anticipated delivery of q1 22. There’s an adventurine CGTS shown a few pages back from my OPC and when I asked my salesperson when it got ordered she told me it was quite a while after mine, which confirms that caymans are coming through much quicker than boxsters.
She also told me that I was now number 1 on the list as the person above me had dropped out, and her OPC had not received a single BGTS allocation since I placed my deposit.
I’m still going to buy the car however long it takes to be delivered, but Porsche as a company really are an absolute shambles in terms of communication to their OPCs and customers.

If anyone is looking at spec, my 2 cents:
Stereo – buy the standard/cheap one, the tyre noise is so loud on anything other than a new surface that the quality of the stereo must be indistinguishable, I have BOSE, sounds okay when you’re stationary.
Seats – 2 way are perfect, I cant see the logic in upgrading unless you have a particular anatomical/medical need, the buckets seem overkill outside a track GT4
Trim – Personal preference, I’m not a fan of the GTS carbon/stitching, looks OTT for my taste. Leather wheel without controls is perfect – I test drove a car with wheel controls and found my fingers couldn’t sit where I wanted them, everything is to hand anyway, plus it’s so loud you cant hear a call properly, see earlier comment re stereo.
Gearbox – The manual is sublime, back to basics driving
Short of track use, I can't see why anyone would want/need a GT4 other than bragging rights. The GTS is an astounding car.
Are the 2 way seats lower than the 18 way? I have the 18 but I feel like I’m sitting on the car rather than in it. While they are very comfortable they just don’t go low enough.Stereo – buy the standard/cheap one, the tyre noise is so loud on anything other than a new surface that the quality of the stereo must be indistinguishable, I have BOSE, sounds okay when you’re stationary.

18 way are higher yes. In a 6sp car, I can’t quite press the clutch to the floor, as my thigh hits the higher seat base.

I thought long and hard before cancelling my order and buying a pre-owned Boxster GTS, but with my experience waiting and tales like these I'm glad I did, and it sounds like it's only getting worse.
I did this as well but actually went for an older car getting a decent spec 2015 981 GTS PDK, my purchase isn't my main car and wanted a car to occasionally use to go touring so waiting for my order a couple of years to maybe get one wasn't really an option, after placing my order of my dream spec to then paying overs for a used 718 4.0 that was not the exact spec or colour I wanted didn't sit well with me either.I am actually pleased I went this way, ended up costing me half as much to buy the car, road tax is cheaper and in all honesty for me it does the same job, I actually prefer the peaky nature of the 3.4 lump to my previous 3.8 Spyder and the roof is a joy to use in comparison!. I am not convinced I would use the extra power of the 4.0 for road use and I may be in the minority but I prefer the look of the 981 front end to the 718 Gts it looks a little plain and less aggressive, only niggle I have with the older model is the dated display for the radio hopefully retro fitting applecarplay will update that.
saying this I do still look daily at 718 GTS and Spyders in the classifieds but nothing in my chosen colour of yellow has come up or not with a pdk anyway and if one did come up not convinced for what I do I could bring myself to spend the extra for what I would get.

Is it not the case that allocations are based on demand? i.e. If the OPC has sufficient orders then they’re likely to get an allocation first? I ask this because sometimes the advice was to try and find an OPC with less people in the queue, but from my conversation when placing my order, the more demand the OPC get the more likely they are to get the allocations.
Possibly (probably) i was getting a load of nonsense just to place the order, but i was going to place it with them anyway as they’re my local dealer and i’m trying to establish a relationship.
I guess it doesn’t matter to whoever is at the back of the queue, whether you’re next in line of tenth, if the allocations aren’t coming through. But i can’t believe that Porsche UK are getting so few cars. Some OPCs must be getting more than a couple a year.

Its been interesting watching the GTS 4.0 prices softening at my local OPC.
The 90k(!) one has dropped 2K. I wish there was a more transparent way of dealing with allocations and what number of slots an OPC is going to actually see.
I know the supply chain issues have an impact but every time I speak to my OPC, I'm getting polite shrugs. I'm still hopeful of a Q1 /Q2 2023 delivery date.
Ever the optimist and all that!

After 5 months of incredibly enjoyable motoring I've somewhat unexpectedly sold my Cayman GTS.
I sold it for a good chunk over list price so have effectively been driving it for free for 5 months, and have also walked away with a tidy sum. It was very easy to sell and it ended up going to my local dealer.
I absolutely loved driving the car but found I was more or less using it solely for my commute - any weekend driving inevitably involved my wife's car so we could haul the dog around, so I wasn't really taking the weekend drives I thought I might when I bought it. It was hard to justify such an amazing car when it was just hauling me to and from the office.
I've been incredibly lucky to pick up a cancelled order last year and jump the queue, then to drive such a great car for 5 months, and to then walk away having turned a profit. Hopefully whoever buys it gets as much enjoyment as I did.
I have a few bits left over - the Zunsport front grille set in black, the official Porsche all weather mats, and two cartons of oil - if anyone is interested feel free to send me a message.
I hope everyone waiting gets theirs soon, and I hope those that already have their cars continue to enjoy them in good health.

Well done, you have enjoyed the car and exploited the market opportunity. Awesome story.I sold it for a good chunk over list price so have effectively been driving it for free for 5 months, and have also walked away with a tidy sum. It was very easy to sell and it ended up going to my local dealer.

I personally would keep it for much longer, but I have diff set of circumstances. Out of interest , what did you replace it with?

Thank you, I have certainly been fortunate. I personally would keep it for much longer, but I have diff set of circumstances. Out of interest , what did you replace it with?
I originally intended to drive my wife's car for a while but a week in and I've realised its not practical for her to be without it. So I've just ordered a Mercedes A35, collection next week. Quite a change but I got a great deal from a local dealer I know, and it was a cancelled order so no lengthy wait for production. Just about fun enough to still get some enjoyment, but more practical day to day and certainly less expensive!
