Hi all - after I ordered my 4.0 with one dealer the other dealer I spoke to called as a follow up. I asked what he was seeing in terms of timeline. He said Q3 2023, which is 6 months earlier than the other dealer mentioned.

Anyone have any further views?
I ordered a Cayman GTS 4.0 this morning. Dealer is thinking it won't be too long, expecting a build slot for delivery in Q2 2023. Take any of these estimates with a huge pinch of salt. Of the 2 new base Caymans I have bought so far it has been 10-11 months both times from order to delivery. I was told Caymans are coming through relatively quickly for them at the moment, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Boxster ordered 10 months ago and was told yesterday looking at May for delivery. I’d like to delay that by a year having just bought a 997.1 while I wait for it and ultimately being greedy and wanting to keep both! Dealer got quite upset with me asking my reasons etc, telling me that everyone wants theirs ASAP and he wasn’t sure it could be delayed. I guess he wants his commission ASAP, but wasn’t impressed with the pushy sales methods he was using. In the end he said he’d look into it as I said I’d probably cancel if I can’t delay it. Surely delaying receipt of the car isn’t a massive problem? Cheers

not sure but If you end up cancelling I would be very interested in your build slot.

Ok great thanks for the info. So basically I have a window of Q2 23 to Q1 24 haha. Q2 23 would be perfect.

It makes sense by Q3 23 as I read somewhere the new EV cayman is estimated for Q1-Q2 24?

Whatever happens very excited to have one of the last ICE caymans.

Just for info, I ordered my BGTS end of July 21, was given an estimated delivery of Q1 22, and have finally been given a build slot of October with delivery pre Christmas.

It’s been a frustrating wait, but as it’s a car I’m keeping forever I’ve become quite sanguine about the delay.

I think you’d have to be next in the queue with OPC, but pm me if you want to be 1st in my queue for a flip opportunity!

As I say, I’d like to have the car but delayed delivery. We’ll see if that’s a possibility.

AG would be my choice on a replacement for my 981.
Is that outside the Cholmondeley Arms?

Looking forward to my factory tour in Stuttgart tomorrow. Unfortunately I’m there two weeks before my car is built!

I saw the video of your car being detailed on YouTube, which I showed to the Mrs to get her seal of approval on the final colour choice. Looks fabulous.

Think it is luck/availability. Picked mine up 30 July with Michelins

That's nice - very understated and smart, if you like that sort of discreet look. Lovely!

So, my GTS was updated to Phase 3 end of last month and when I checked with my OPC I was told I’ve got till the end of the week to firm my spec up.

I’m still dithering on PDK v Manual, although current spec is PDK. I’m not going to reopen that debate again as it’s been done to death on here and on other forums. Also on the fence with Bose, climate and upgrading the extended leather on the racetex to the full GTS interior pack. Again, all this has been covered loads on this thread… I’ll flip a coin if I have to!

I do have a couple of questions though:

1) what sort of timeframe am I now looking at for delivery, does anyone have any insight? My OPC has said October, which feels a bit optimistic to me.

2) I was planning on getting a front end PPF done through the dealer with whoever it is they use (OPC is in Leeds). Has anyone had this done and have any views, tips or info on cost. If memory serves it was £2.5k plus vat, which seems expensive, but if it protects the car, then prob worth it?

Thanks

I think I paid £1.8k for front end on my mustang, and £3.2k for full coverage on my Spyder from a guy in Wiltshire while has done all my cars. This was 2 years ago so probably gone up a bit by then.

I would say on that basis £2.5k is reasonable considering it will all be done before you collect so won’t have the faf of transporting/driving the car to the ppf place then picking it up etc
