Does PPF actually stop the chip showing, or just it doesn’t damage the paint? Has everyone PPF’d their cars?
Personally I don't bother on Porsches given the cost of ppf vs front end resprayI won't make the same mistake on a triple layer Ferrari again though...

Yep. PPF done here too.
Bonnet, bumper, wings, side scuttles, wing mirrors and behind the rear wheels. The section below the side intakes gets properly battered.
Can I ask about price? Was this done through Porsche or separately arranged? Bonnet, bumper, wings, side scuttles, wing mirrors and behind the rear wheels. The section below the side intakes gets properly battered.
Any recommendations on location?
My GTS is being built a month earlier than the OPC advised, so 9th November by their records. Threw me a bit as I haven't even looked at what i'm doing with my current 981 BGTS, so to cover myself I applied for finance yesterday which allows me to keep both for a period if required.
Anyway, APR is now 7.9% and i've been told it's going up to 8.9% next month, so worth locking in while you can if you haven't done so already.
Also, the 'future value' of a Cayman GTS PDK after 3 years and 5k miles per year is stated as £48k. Seems a little low?

Interesting stuff on PPF, thanks guys. Has anyone not bothered with it? I’ve decided not to, the car will do only about 3k pa so will deal with any chips down the line. Will probably ceramic coat it, mainly for the washing benefit
Initially I had mine just ceramic coated. 2 months and 500 miles down the line I found it was already picking up a couple of light stone chips on the side sills just below the air intakes. Decided to get PPF on the sills up and around the air intakes and happy days. Haven't bothered with PPF anywhere else and after 8000 miles its only got the odd small stone chip on the front spoiler area. That is a taste of things to come as well, 2% rate rise expected by the end of the year and from what we have been told by the finance companies that is just the start.

2020 manual cayman GTS 4.0 are £67k+ on autotrader, so I think £48k is very low…. Unless the market changes drastically.Anyway, APR is now 7.9% and i've been told it's going up to 8.9% next month, so worth locking in while you can if you haven't done so already.

Cheapest 2.5 GTS PDK on a 2018 (68) plate is £50.5k with 40k plus miles, so this would also seem to infer the GMFV you’ve got is vey low.
Personally I’d be surprised if with low miles and a good spec it would be worth any less than £60k… of course this is all based on the current market.
However if the 718 goes electric by 2025 I’d assume this will push used prices up further for the 4.0 N/A cars.
Who knows… it’s a lottery… buy it, drive it, enjoy it… that’s what I’m going to do with mine when it arrives next month!
So I think I’m going to get into a used CGTS 4.0 and cancel my deposit. Been talking to a dealer about a car then…
All of a sudden a different Carmine red at Porsche Leeds I have saved as a fav has dropped £2-3k. Seems too good to be true. Now at £67k, Anyone know the car?
It’s close to my new spec

Yes, I didn't bother with PPF for my first base 718 Cayman in May 2017, but did get it coated. About a year later I had the front bumper painted, as it had too many stone chips for words. (I had done about 13,000 miles in the first year, mostly on motorway and fast A-roads). Sold the car 5 months / 4000 miles later and it was still pretty much mint.My latest base Cayman arrived almost a year ago, and I had Xpel PPF applied to the front bumper before I even saw the car. The rest of it was ceramic coated. My reasoning was that I'll do a few less miles per year in this one, and was planning to keep it for a very long time, so worth the investment. Possibly not the best value for money ever, as I ordered a Cayman GTS 4.0 more recently, and the base Cayman will probably be the car that I need to lose when the new one arrives.
What I can say is that Xpel PPF has protected the front bumper from numerous stone chips, is easy to wash flies off, and self-heals without needing to get a hair-dryer out. The chips are less visible, but you can feel them when washing the car, and they magically disappear over the course of weeks in summertime. I'll definitely be getting the same for the new car when it arrives.
In your position? I think probably a fair call not to. It hasn't been better than "break even" for me so far, and getting the front bumper painted and a few other chips touched in was similar money to PPF in limited areas that might get damaged.

I realise it's a few years ago, but what did it cost to get the bumper repainted? I've been quoted £700 for PPF of front bumper, cills and the bit around the air intake. I'm not really a PPF believer but feel these bits could get battered and wondering whether to PPF or just repaint later. My latest base Cayman arrived almost a year ago, and I had Xpel PPF applied to the front bumper before I even saw the car. Why is PPF so expensive anyway? It’s far more expensive than a wrap. Isn’t it about the same Process? Edited by LBT123456 on Thursday 27th October 08:11

I took it for a test drive a few months ago at Leeds when I needed to decide between manual and PDK. I think it’s been used as a demo car if memory serves but mileage is quite high for that… it’s exactly the same spec though, so must be the same one.All of a sudden a different Carmine red at Porsche Leeds I have saved as a fav has dropped £2-3k. Looks good value for that price.
If it was nearer to the spec I wanted I would have cancelled and bought it, but I don’t want red and do want pdk.

If like me you've put £10k+ on options on base GTS what is a couple of £k to keep your car mint. Caveat is mine's a keeper so worth investment. The chat about front end spray - ok, but what about chips on A pillars, wing mirrors, sills, rear arch gravel dash. If you were to make all those areas perfect after a couple of years what is the cost beyond base 'front end re-spray'? Pretty sure it pays for itself more than once over. I do 8-10k miles all year round.
