I think it's actually Vodafone that collect the fee, but yes, a huge annoyance. I let it lapse on my last 2 new Caymans when they got to a year old. I'll have to see how I feel when the GTS 4.0 gets there. Always seems a lot of money for what it actually is.

I can't believe you only get 1 year with Porsche, I was under the incorrect assumption it was 3 years, it was on my Macan.

Could it be it's just the embedded sim that you lose after a year not the services? If you put your own data sim in, would you then get the data to/from the car. My Macan just using a 3 data sim still has the location, fuel, tyres, locking situation, I don't pay for the Porsche embedded sim.

Do you also lose the location alarms etc., as I like this feature.

I wonder if the Vodafone tracker which costs £230 or so.....also requires you to sign up to Porsche Connect furious

It’s bundled together if you get the tracker. I let my GTS sub lapse as didn’t see the value in keeping it. The Spyder needs a tracker for insurance so had to stump up.

You can keep the tracker sub without the connect part of it AFAIK - sure that's what I've done

Yes, the tracker part is the Security Services and it's around £230. You can see the vehicle's location with this. I also got 'Safety' services in that price.

Remote Services is/was another £109 and you need this for the speed alerts and trip information etc.

I like having the app data but don’t want to pay for it. As a previous poster said, can you put any working sim in to get the data?

I use a 3 sim which costs circa £30 for 25gb over 2 years. I do get all the location services, I.e. car position, tyres, fuel etc. I don't pay for the Porsche sim.
However that is on a 2018 Macan and I think they did change sim requirements so I can't be sure it would work on a 1 year old car.
The other advantage is that when using Waze, Tom Tom, Google maps and anything that draws data, that then comes from the inserted car sim rather than my phone data package.

If I'm understanding you correctly - you put in your own sim, and all is well in terms of the car speaking to the app about location, fuel level etc? No faff around reprogramming anything etc?

Yes, I bought a 3 sim and don't pay Porsche for their sim and I have fuel level, tyres pressure, location, locking situation etc.
This is a 2018 car though and as stated earlier I have no idea if this works in a later car. I had read somewhere maybe on a Porsche forum that newer cars require the paid Porsche Connect to access it. What year is your car?
However for £30 it maybe worth a try.

Thanks, much appreciated. I've got a May 2021 Spyder, and since I stopped paying for the connected services I don't get the fuel level etc although I can still see the location - I still pay for the tracker

Nice car thumbup
If you do try a 3 sim or similar and it works in a 2021 car, please let me know as I wouldn't then pay Porsche to keep their sim in my 2023 Boxster GTS4.0.

I've just put a deposit down on this: https://www.portlandautos.co.uk/vehicles/porsche/p... and would appreciate some feedback.

As with any used car there is a compromise on spec. For me I wanted a manual in red, silver or white with the GTS interior pack and under £65K This car only as the standard air con and also only has PASM (-10mm) rather than SPASM (-20mm). I'm fairly certain I can live with manual air-con as I never use auto in my other cars but what I'm curious about is what effect the standard PASM has on steering, if any.

My understanding is SPASM includes thicker front and rear ARB and shorter and stiffer springs but not sure if the dampers are different. This sounds like normal PASM should be less crashy and more compliant but does steering feel get sacrificed as a result?

I wouldn't worry about steering feel, there isn't much to start with!

Is this something that you have concluded over time with your BGTS? I seem to remember you singing its praises early on.

After a few hiccups with the delivery process, I finally took delivery of my 718 Cayman GTS just before Christmas.

Pic attached. I think it looks fantastic in GT Silver with silver wheels (but tastes may vary…).

This was a once in a lifetime purchase for me so I ensured it had the right spec for my tastes and needs, as follows-

Black leather interior with Porsche crest on the headrests
Brushed aluminium interior trim
LED headlights
Adaptive Sports seats
ParkAssist
Light design package
Bose

It’s a manual. I had a PDK- equipped one on extended test, but while that was a mightily impressive ‘box, I am very pleased with the manual, which feels perfect to me - precise, tactile and quick.

It’s still early days with the car but I know I made the right choice - maybe it sounds a bit boring but it just does everything ‘right’. The handling/ride compromise is a revelation and the weighting of the steering is just perfect. The car is refined, but retains enough ‘mechanical noise’ in the cabin to keep things interesting. The car is being run in but it is clear that the performance available will be more than ‘adequate’.

I bought the car as I had heard that the next iteration of the Cayman and Boxster will be EV only (and they don’t interest me at all). That might now be in doubt, with a suggestion that production of ICE mode also will continue alongside EV for a while, but I am glad I bought when I did. They are superb cars.

It's something I concluded after getting in a 987.2 straight after mine. There is nothing wrong per se with the electric PAS on the 718, it's as good as any other modern sports car (bar McLaren and Alpine) and better than most. Nicely weighted and calibrated. But it will never be as feelsome as a good hydraulic rack IMHO
