I just checked the invoice ... £7801 inc vat and full geo ... call it rose tinted spectacles ... or man-maths !

This made a fantastic difference in terms of confidence and money saved on front tyres. How many pairs will bring it back to £5k ?? (Just teasing !)

Then came the ST discs and the money saved on brake pads. £10k optional but less the four sets of pads that I estimate to have saved ... and no need ever to take spare pads to Spa etc ...

Then came the final stage to Cayman Clubsport MR suspension and the engine mods ... including the quiet exhaust ... I noise tested at Oulton this March at 99dB at 5500rpm ...

I have just fitted a new set of pads and replaced the brake fluid ... the second time in two years.

And of course `I do have a full low mileage PASM system / exhaust system with cats / PCCB's and various other bits and pieces ... am I allowed to deduct the value of these as well ?

The tuning was done after I was last at Spa, I recall 2:48 .... on a video that my Brother in Law was making ...

But I have a solid 1.19 at Donnington and 1.56.01 ! at Oulton all before the tuning that was done last summer.

I'm trying to get my hosting at Photobucket sorted out ...I can hopefully then post a pic of the Oulton times off my telephone ...

Nice times and as said 1.56 at Oulton is quick, keep us updated when you come to Snetterton this year if the lockdown ends, I would really like to see you and the car in action and would like to get some data if you wouldn't mind my aim solo in the glovebox, I could then over lay the information collected

i was thinking the same and compared the 2. quite an interesting comparison IMHO smile

boxer vs bodybuilder?

and if you black out the 981 rear lights...
A bit of a muchness about them to be honest; the silver hides the lines and detailing in the body-work where as the mid-grey brings it out. 981 from what I have heard on Youtube sounds better but either way they beautiful cars.

Agreed. In the flesh the extra crease lines on the 718 are more apparent and it looks sharper than the pics above show.

They're very similar though, especially if you look at the versions with the blacked out the rear lights on the 981.

i'll be honest, i'm more into the design, aesthetics and sound of a car than i am the slight performance and/or technical differences.

sure the 718GT4 engine may be technically better than the 981's, but the sound of the 981 engine vs the 718 is a much bigger deal for me. soon most cars will be near silent, so i'll enjoy what i can to its fullest before giving that up.

and sure the 718 will probably turn better and faster and more accurately than the 981, but does it really matter if you're not at or close to the limits of the car? can you honestly say you'll be anywhere near those limits on the road? or even on track for that matter...

edit - not knocking the 718GT4 by the way. it looks fab and i'm sure it's a great car

I did my CAT Driver training with an instructor for the full day at Millbrook Proving Grounds 987.2 Boxster PDK, PASM, DSC v1 with Bridgestone Potenza RE050A and stock brakes and no LSD. Realised that the car is way more skilled than I am. Spoke to the instructor afterwards about tyres, brake pads, fluid and braided brake hoses. He said not to bother and to put the money towards going on track more often. Since then I went to Brands Hatch Indy circuit, 1/2 instructor time to help get me setup for the morning, racing line, braking points, etc he said spend the money on practice, practice, practice...

Think you are right. Amazing how many people think this will be over in a couple of months and the world will return to normal.
Nobody knows where we are heading; we are in uncharted waters. When a flu virus can affect people in warmer temperatures, outside of the flu season I say bovine faeces.

Mummy & Daddy buy a daughter a £50K car while she is a student. She then spends £35K on getting crystals plastered all over it. This recession will affect hoi-polloi. The well-off will have paper write-downs but will shift into other asset classes. I'm sure quite a few of them will be going on a buying spree. Buy low sell high, not buy high sell low.

Looking at that in those colours, I think the 981 looks a less fussy and slicker design.

I've been nosing at GT4s again whilst being stuck in the house and the race car in the garage, glued to my simulator. The GT4 as prices are not falling drasitically, I think we have seen some quick sale prices but its quite rare still. Against the bigger stuff its a GT4 is lot cheaper to run too. Competition; Exige 410 Sport even they have dropped a fair bit, but again that's a compromise of a car if you want to do longer trips I found after a long trip in a 350 Sport just before lock down which made me think twice. I have the cash to buy one right now but I guess like others I'm just not sure of the near future so not buying anything right now.

Hope your all good!

don't agree there's a bit of a muchness about them. there are clear differences and the 718 looks more muscular and the sharper detailing is clear to see even with the silver colour.

i prefer the more subtle and slightly more rounded 981 but that's just personal preference. both look great and i'm sure the more muscular 718 will appeal to many.

IMO they're different enough to appeal in different ways though.

I agree with you they do give subtly different accents. Which is what body kit changes do front and rear bumper, spoiler and the intakes. BMW used to do Sport, M Sport, Aerodynamic then BMW Performance (now rebranded as M Performance) body kits for E87 1 series hatchback. My long in tooth run-a-round 120d has BMW Performace alloys, Aerodynamic rear-spoiler, BMW Performance springs (for lowering and tighter handling - works well with the Konis) and M Sport rear bumper. I am sure it's just a matter of time until someone comes out with a front and rear bumper, spoiler and intakes, if the 718 kit isn't interchangeable with the 981. On the Range Rover, you can just swap parts like that between the updated one and the old ones and people usually do. I've even put the Autobiography body-kit onto an HSE Sport. I go with what looks pleasant to my eyes. Currently to my eyes, the wheel to arch gap looks like a cross-over on 987.2 PASM Boxster. Porsche will invalidate the warranty completely if I fit Eibach Pros. I care about the warranty for the PDK, how Eibach Pros or H&R are going affect the PDK unit is beyond me, suspension yes absolutely. The 718 is a mid-life update for the 981, rather like an LCI in the BMW world.

Looks like it sold on the 3rd April for £42,100 (or not as the case must be)
