Nice spec although a pity the service was over a month late.
Looking at how busy my opc is in their service department a month late is nothing to worry about!

Have had a look back through the thread, but can't see it having been mentioned, I keep coming back to the Martini striped 981 that JZM have got in, seems very good price for the miles, anyone know anything more about it?

Tempted to go take a look and wouldn't mind knowing any gremlins ahead of time.

Part of me is wondering if buying a 9k mile car with the intention of driving it regularly is a bit daft, but the price doesn't (to me) seems very reasonable giving the mileage.
The JZM write up states it has extended leather but it doesn't. Placcy dash and door cards.

The other point is it may not have climate.... only manual aircon. I've had manual aircon on both a 981 Spyder and 981 GT4 and whilst it works ok even in the winter most buyers prefer climate which was a c£500 extra when new.
Are you for real?

Isn’t your gt4 in freebie red and basic wheels, probably has the free grey stitching as well as you didn’t want to spend the extra money. The fact that the car priced well and has standard air con makes zero difference, I’ve a 718 gt4 and boxster, both hand normal air con and were perfect in terms of heating / cooling / temperature control.

Most buyers would be more concerned over a cars colour and wheel choice than a heater upgrade!

Appreciate the feedback, now I’ve gone down the rabbit hole of what and what isn’t an option worth having! I must admit I’d like climate but read mixed reports of how effective the manual system is. Am I right in thinking if it has auto lights, it also has auto wipers?
As I say the manual aircon works ok even on a Spyder but it is clearly less attractive than climate and thats why Porsche charge c£500 for it and still do even on the 718!

Auto lights are standard.

Auto dim (or anti dazzle) interior mirror (and exterior mirrors too) came with auto rain sensor for wipers and were a c£335 option.

Looks like that white GT4 at JZM has no PCM either which was a c£2250 option. thumbup

GT4s do look pretty spec sensitive, seems to be a bit of a thing. Mines got extended leather/the adaptive driving lights thing, climate, clubsport, carbon buckets, auto wipers/dimming etc plus all the usual suspects of bigger tank etc. I hadn't realised some of the other bits were options though such as the alloy look filler cap, pedals etc?
I have seen a basic spec car in the flesh, still look great but if its a few grand less you'll still have a cracking drive. I'm very glad I got the bucketseats albeit reclined now.

There’s certainly a few on here that have some very weird opinions, that’s for sure. I posted the Blue 718 GT4 to let people know it was for sale in case anyone was interested, after all, it’s bloody lovely, and all I get is snarky comments about the servicing being 28 days late. It’s an odd forum, quite spikey, although there are some really well informed users too. When they can get a word in…

Completely agree! Imo they don’t drive all that either! They are stunning looking cars and I am glad I ticked it off the list but I would never go for one again. This thread confirms it!

I've had some great cars and the 981 drives superbly well , better than I expected. I will say mine has had a lot of alignment work and suspension set up done to dial out any understeer, its quite stunning on country lanes. I have heard that std cars will push the front a little. The gearing I am used to now, you do learn to drive round it.

Glad you are enjoying it. I never had a problem with the gearing. I really didn’t like the steering and I didn’t find the car much fun, just a nice car. People have different opinions though.

Seen that car in person and it’s very tidy actually. I guess the decals put people off, but the paint and general condition seemed really good. It’s clearly been owned by someone who cares about it.
I've noticed this car as well, if it's just the stripes causing the problem you'd have thought they would just remove them? Maybe it's not that simple?

I'm realistically a few months away from pulling the trigger on one but it's certainly better priced than most.

This thread always makes me smile but I feel that this recent poster needs some proper advice.

Be very, very careful what you purchase.

My white clubsport 2015 GT4 (buckets and cage) is missing the absolutely critical leather dash, smokers pack climate, alcantara visors and funny lights.

It has 20k miles on it (it had 4k when I bought it)

It has had 5 owners.

It's been modded, headers, intake, tune, MR dampers, 997 front calipers to fit 18" wheels.

It's wrapped blue to please the wife.

I service it every year at specialists rather than OPC (why bother they wouldn't put me on a list for a 718 GT4 never mind an RS)

So based on much of the feedback on this thread, it's junk.

I therefore constantly think how worthless it is as I drive it on the UK roads compete at hill climbs and do the occasional track day.

To the recent poster, basically buy one as soon as possible.

Let's say you buy the white one at JZM with stripes, I've seen it c10k miles and looks brand new, if in three year's it's worth £60k - so maybe £1 per mile. A bargain

But shop around for the fun of it, then stop buggering about and get a colour you like buy one.

Maybe you save £5k waiting six months or for winter....whatever. There was a guy on here (11R who was always telling me that my car would soon be worth £50k, whatever

Three months is how long it took my best mate to die of leukemia. His white 911 Classic which he bought at the start of his illness stood undriven.

it's the most fun car I have ever owned and here is my list so far:- I've been lucky and can't imagine ever being able to afford a 488GTB, Pista, GT2RS or decent Maclaren.

Cavalier SRi (yeah it was red and I thought it was great, my first car)
TVR S1 - smelt of dead sheep but was bloody quick
TVR Chimaera 4.0 x 2, also smelled of dead sheep, bonnet deformed above 1120 mph, were bloody quick
Range Rover (second gen) x 2, fantastic but utterly ruining and fuel guzzling barges
BMW 325i, nice but dull
BMW M5, awesome
Audi RS6, awesome
Audi RS4, awesome
BMW M3 CSL, absolutely awesome
Landrover defender 90 x2, 110, still have the 110 after 130k miles and 13 years of faultless service, awesome
Mini Countryman (this is shameful I admit, I told the wife it was for her but she denies this is true)

Classics - driven thousands of miles on all these
DB5 - had to sell after divorce (did the Scottish malts regulatory in it)
Dino 246 GT - sold to give my son a private schooling
Alfa Romeo Junior Zagato (nope never let me down ever)
Triumph TR5 (was a daily for 4 years, yes they rust)
Landrover series 2

To bring balance, here are the downsides of a 981 GT4.

It's loud and occasionally pisses off my neighbours
It can only carry one wife or child and one dog at a time, it is best enjoyed without these features
The coffee holding thing is not very good
It scrapes it's nose sometimes over speed bumps in London (but cheap to replace).
It can't carry very much to the rubbish tip in it
It is poor off road
People come up to me at petrol stations, motorway services stations and ask to sit in it and talk about it
I am a very tiny bit stiff when I get out of it after driving to Spa or Glasgow
The PCM is a bit crap but can be deleted with a shelf

GO AND BUY ONE - GOOD LUCK

You mean you don’t meet up with fellow forum members at an empty industrial estate car park late at night to discuss the differences in climate control and extended leather???

Why do you even bother laugh

Great Post
Out of interest who did you use for tuning etc and which exhaust/headers did you go with?
A nice technical discussion would be helpful particularly if you have any before and after plots etc.

I used Ken at Nine Excellence to tune and instal the Dundon hears, intake, IPD, over axle pipes with Cats and a GT3 exhaust. It is supremely loud and fails sound everywhere, so I use a JCR noise reducing tips as required.

I bought the Dundon kit over time mainly used from the US. X rates not helpful now. Cargraphic v good I hear and Kline too.

Ken did a good job and I would recommend him and his firm.

He does 'real world' testing so timed runs on the same piece of road but of course, cold air significantly helps power output.

I separately dynoed the car at Surrey Rolling Road on a Dynodynamics rolling road. Sadly I did not do a before but the guys there have done other std GT4s.

They told me that the std ones usually showed a 'normalised' 345-350hp on their set up and, therefore a 35hp correction to the Porsche data.

They got a normalised peak of 385 and 395 using the exhaust/headers and exhaust/headers/intake. It was cold on the day I did the full set up (7deg C) and they told me that 'un normalised' the run showed 425hp).

It's a lot of money for 35-40hp but I have enjoyed the process and believe I can resell the Dundon stuff into the US if I ever decide to sell (can't see this happening).

Send me a PM if you wnat a couple of images of the dyno runs.

IM respectful O, av185 does have a pretty good handle on used Porsche prices. But quite a lot of things he points out about cars are perhaps more relevant to the genuine collector looking to mothball a car and sell it in a few years for a considerable profit, service intervals, MD servicing, number of previous owners and spec sheet omissions being the most obvious. Or perhaps more relevant to those buying with a keen and concerned eye on what the next owner might be looking for.

For everyday owners looking to use a car regularly and willing to accept that depreciation is a part of ownership, I’m not sure they are quite so important factors.

Oh that's helpful thanks. Have met Ken and very aware of 9e talents so that's good to know they can tweak GT4s if required. If/when the standard porsche rear box goes or needs replacing I'd perhaps consider a stainless sports system with box and over axle pipes. Not sure I'd do headers as yet. Have driven a car with them on and although it sounded fabulous it was too loud to be fair.
Currently I've just got the valves vac line plugged for constant sports mode.
Will drop you a pm thanks

Love this biggrin

My biggest 1st world issue is not knowing if it will get on the drive! We have a 350Z with Rocket Bunny kit on the drive and he has to reverse on. Not many GT4s in South Devon to flag down to test the parking. The white GT4 at Better Performance (which is within 4 hour roundtrip) would look good on the drive if it could get on it.
And keeping to the theme of the OP, that GT4 has also started drifting down in price, but is 4 months of your life without a GT4 worth £2k?

If you're just going to buy a car for what the next owner is going to be looking for, why are you even bothering at all?

Collectors? Pah, do one, collect something that was designed to be static. I would love to be in a financial position to pay over the odds for something "Collectable" that had delivery mileage on it, then put 15,000 miles on it in the first year just to make a bloody point. Alas I am not, boo!
