New GTS or GT4

The engine is the heart of the car, as such the 718 GT4 is just a GTS that’s been to the gym and had their teeth whitened. Agree the 981 GTS was just a very well optioned S same 3.4 engine with small increase in power, 981 GT4 was a 3.8 litre engine. The difference between a “GT car” and a standard Porsche has never been so small as it is in the 718 and no amount of people talking up 718 GT4 will change that, it’s the least special GT product, that doesn’t mean it’s not a great Porsche.
I hear what you're saying, and I agree the engine is the heart of the car, but as with the 981 series they key differentiator between the GTS 4.0 and the GT4 is the chassis, brakes and how the whole package is managed e.g. traction control settings, engine mapping, ABS management etc. There isn't a small difference between them if you look at the detail.Obviously we need to agree to differ with our views on this - enjoy your GTS until your Spyder arrives.

Were you offered an allocation for a GT4? Otherwise saying you could have stretched is rather academic isn’t it?
What's the obsession with people being offered a GT4 slot. I have no Porsche buying history
I was not offered a slot but with a bit of of legwork I could have got 2 GT4 slots
Times are changing and currently GT4 not selling for overs so I imagine a certain amount of GT4 buyers now opting out of there slots and allowing normal people like me a chance
If people were actually honest about the reasons they bought their car rather than try and justify their decision to every Tom, Dick and Harry on the internet, this forum would be a much nicer place.
When the GT4 came out, the 'top-dog' 718 was a 2.5t - Lots of people bought the GT4 as they wanted a flat 6. Now the GTS 4.0L is out the decision is not as easy.

Agreed. Problem is people criticise others for their decisions. When the GT4 came out, the 'top-dog' 718 was a 2.5t - Lots of people bought the GT4 as they wanted a flat 6. Now the GTS 4.0L is out the decision is not as easy.

very true you buy a GTS now, it's faster and cheaper and has a GT4 engine, triple win for 85% buyers. When the GT4 came out, the 'top-dog' 718 was a 2.5t - Lots of people bought the GT4 as they wanted a flat 6. Now the GTS 4.0L is out the decision is not as easy.
I just think it's pissing a few people off and the 4.0l GTS was a shock release to many.
I would be pissed having a GTS flash me over down hanger straight if I just spent £100k on a GT4 !
people did not mind the 2.5T being faster as no one wanted that engine, now the GTS has the GT4 engine, well......funny to read people posts on here.
I don’t know I was offered a slot a couple of months ago having never enquired about one and haven’t bought a car since Q1 2018 form my OPC. I reckon right place right time you probably could have got one of the last manual slots (which is what this specifically was)...think for a PDK slot might be harder as there will be some who held on.
Enough of this talk of allocations.
Johnny Cocker has modified his GT4 heavily...I saw/heard this at a track day at Silverstone a couple of weeks ago. It sounded ridiculous even with track day silencers fitted. Fast forward 2 mins and try to ignore the presenter as he’s to say the least a “tad annoying”

Lap times would be good when you post this drivel

People buy what they want with their own moneyLet them enjoy it
For me it was either a 911 C4S ( as I like the wide body) or a Cayman GT4 ( as I like the styling with the wing etc)
Nothing else was even looked at
2 different cars and hard to see how they can even compare but in my mind that is what I want

No obsession, it's just that the artificial scarcity prevents a proper apples vs apples comparison. Sir can order a new GTS today, and take delivery in two months, of this cancelled GT4 build slot in a colour/spec you don't like, or can offer you a new car in a year. Brexit Sir? Never heard of it, just sign this form... I have no Porsche buying history

I am glad to see them out there, in the hands of people who actually want to drive them. Profiteering regardless of product is always fundamentally something I've disagreed with, despite my libertarian views.

It is for some. I knew the 4.0 GTS was coming when I ordered my GT4 and it was a never a consideration for me. It was 718 GT4 or stick with my 981 GTS.
Same, I wanted a GT4 or I was going to go elsewhere, perhaps even McLaren. Cheib said:

Be interesting to do that tune to a BGtS or a Spyder if you can get one!

After a 3 month or so wait My GT4 has arrived at the Porsche centre. For me, I’ve wanted a GT4 for around 5 years now and tried/failed to get one on and off. Was offered a few GTS slots early in the year but it wasn’t the car for me, glad I held on!
Looks nice in Red. When you collecting her?

Porsche centre Aberdeen? So, to summarise the GTS/GT4 argument; people who bought a GTS, say GTS, people who bought a GT4, say GT4.
'Expert' bystanders drop the odd brick in the pond to good effect.
Other findings: you can or cannot order a GT4, what is crucial is that you do, or do not have a relationship with your OPC.
The £10,000 price differential is wasted money which is well worth it and makes a huge, but negligible difference to making the GT4 faster, except when it's slower. (Good brick for pond: the T4 engined cars are faster again and the sound isn't the important thing, though it is the premier downside.)
I hope that's covered it and that this can continue for at least a hundred pages - which I will read, but ironically dislike as I'm reading them anyway. Just like the other thread on the GTS4.0 which is mainly the same people saying the same things, but which I'm also going to keep reading.
