987 2.7 Boxster Suspension
Discussion
I found my Boxster was catching on a few speed bumps which it's usually fine over so assumed I had a puncture. On further inspection I found a 360 degree score around the inner side wall (of a brand new PS2) and a broken spring on the o/s front. Great!
Anyway .... I'm in two minds on the approach to fix it .... I'm generally in the if it ain't broke don' fix it camp so could just replace a pair of front springs but I can't stop thinking about a full suspension refresh (as it's a 2005 on nearly 100k and I assume it's all original).
The car generally drives fine but I've had a knocking over small bumps from the rear end for a while which I assume was top mounts (could be wrong).
My questions are:
1. What's the generally accepted best fast road set-up (struts and dampers)? It's not a track car so I don't want anything too stiff. I'd be happy enough replacing with OEM unless anyone can suggest a + 10%ish performance option.
2. What's everyone's opinion a full refresh front and rear including arms/bushes/top mounts (priced up at circa. £3500 just in parts). Is it a night and day improvement or a minor incremental improvement. Is it worth the money? The last think I want is to spend £4k and find it's barely improved. (I think I've probably answered my own question on this one).
I had a similar discussion with my local specialist last year and his opinion was it's all generally sound ... don't spend any money until it needs it!
