Maybe, we need to know which OPC(s) we're talking about I think. The Porsche owned ones may indeed work differently, my experience is with a franchise.

Porsche GB negotiate with Porsche AG for a number of cars per quarter. Porsche AG supply those build slots for cars to Porsche GB, who in turn distribute them to the dealerships based on demand, previous sales figures etc etc. Once that is done, Porsche GB's job is complete unless there's an issue that has to be resolved e.g. delays, incorrect build when the car arrives etc.

Once assigned to them, each Porsche dealership manages their build slots and Porsche AG do not care who the customer is or if it's a car built for dealership stock. They just build a car to fulfil an order.

It's as simple as that.

Lol So Reading allocate all UK cars. regardless of the playing with abacus etc etc the cars are distributed to the network by Reading (Porsche GB). After the allocation is made the dealership can do what they like with the cars . The point I was making was that Reading make the original allocation of cars so if your local dealership is not given a Spyder or a GT4 you can offer him anything you want and you still will not get a car. I think the only fact that I got wrong was cancelled orders, I was lead to believe by a dealership that probably had not been allocated any cars (Boxster25) that cancelled orders were re allocated also by Reading which is clearly rubbish.

Not sure I understood what your original point was, or what you wanted to know, but as long as you're happy now then all's good.

Tough not to be frustrated as a potential buyer when you see adverts like this: https://www.pistonheads.com/buy/listing/11841787

Not even that nice a spec. The most annoying part is that it's an OPC, which as far as I'm concerned is Porsche itself endorsing this fked up flipper practice.

I happened to mention to my OH that the only car I actually wanted at the minute was a new 718 Spyder. She (and I nearly fell off the chair) initially said, "You should get what you really want". I explained there was no chance to which the reply was, "Could you not just get a used one?". I showed her this advert.

Whilst I could just about stomach an £83k order, I am in no position at all to find an extra £27k - and even if I could, the very situation surrounding buying a 'GT' car new, just makes me want to puke.

Totally agree with this, I have had two Porsche gt3s, dealers love to take the money for servicing etc and love to buy them but won’t sell me a new one, porsche is a mad world now, they are not customer focused just out for what they can get. Why sell these to a customer new when they can drive them round the block and advertise them as used and up the price?

It almost puts me off buying any other Porsche, if I was honest - although I will admit that I am just being a grump today, so you should take that with a pinch of salt.

Don't feel Porsche/OPC are to blame IMHO it's the txxxers who order every single new special because they can and have a fleet of same same cars, the flippers who order a car they don't really want and the mugs who pay extreme overs , the Porsche buyers market has become a sad place these days and it's the greed of what I would call the non Porsche enthusiasts!
To spread the share more fairly, Porsche/OPC could permit only one special/GT per annum and let someone else have a fighting chance of an order , I mean look at the used Porsche site(manuals) it's dominated by used 718gt4!!!!!

This weekend there seems to be a batch of October/ November 2020 GT4’s appearing on the Porsche approved site with low mileage Circa 500 miles Are these cars Porsche have been keeping to one side to put back on to the used market? I can’t imagine all these are owners who are selling or part ex cars with that low mileage all in the same week.
Yet when you try and get an allocation you are told there are none available!!

Possibly cancelled orders that may have been used for demo purposes or brief company car stints. Different to new allocations though so will not affect that
