So I am two months into ownership and loving the car. One thing which I was undecided about was the Satin Aurum wheels. As the body colour is GT silver, with PCCB's the Satin Aurum feels it clashes with the yellow calipers or certainly does not compliment them.

Now trying to find a GT Silver car with original silver wheels (brilliant silver I think) seems to be allot harder than I thought. It appears the factory colour upgrade to black, Aurum and platinum seems to be the most popular choice amongst owners.. Also looking at the Tequipment website, silver does not appear to be an option anymore, therefore chances of finding some used might be low also..

I see more Spyder owners opting for the classic silver wheels on GT silver. Any GT4 owners out there with the GT Silver and silver wheels with PCCB?

I have found an image online, however not with PCCB and I really think it works better with the silver wheels. I would prefer to keep the original wheels rather than respraying them.. I know colour is very subjective..

Personally, I think that the aurum looks better than the silver. Maybe an option would be to spray the calipers black, removing the aurum-yellow clash?

Likely cheaper, too ...

Thanks for the feedback. Having looked more into this, there are some options. A set of wheels for the 718 GT4 are circa £3.5k from Porsche, as many of you know, when you consider the 981 GT4 wheels are £4.5k, makes them sound like a bargain. I wonder why they are cheaper?

As I have spare set of tyres for potential future track days, might invest in another set of wheels and try the silver. A respray of the wheels is circa £500, a brake colour change to black is circa £600.

A simple colour change shouldn't cost £500. The place I use is under £300.

A second set of 718 GT4 wheels sounds like the best option as you'll always be able to sell them for a good price.

Have you considered a darker grey, or Porsche Satin Platinum?

Here are two GT4s in GT Silver...

The original Silver wheels just clash a little with the body colour in my opinion. Certainly better than Aurum and the yellow calipers...




Whereas Satin Platinum contrasts well with both the yellow calipers and with the body colour, plus you have the added advantage of hiding dirt better than Silver. Plus I believe you could buy Platinum wheels off the shelf and not have to respray them.

I changed the wheels on my 981 Spyder from the originals in bright silver to a set of GT4 wheels in black satin. As per DJMC’s comment I thought the silver wheels clashed with the GT Silver body colour. I much prefer the black. Pictures, before and after, on the Porsche picture a day thread. smile

This really is first world problems smile I think I prefer the silver, as it looks more classic. Given very little owners have not spec'd non option silver, I think I want it more.. The above picture I originally posted was not great..

Yes, and then the car becomes non-original and a future buyer may be put off by not being able to show off their yellow PCCBs unless they too have them painted back to yellow.

I've always like red and yellow together...?

Yes, part of the cost is due to it being more labour intensive. However, the paint is also more heat resistant than that used on the wheels (especially for CCBs*) and that also increases the cost per litre as well (though, likely less paint used overall ...).

* If you were to get the calipers resprayed, make sure that the paint is spec'd for CCBs as this could cause problems otherwise (if the car is used hard ...).

It's a 2020 car, yes?

Painting Porsche wheels or calipers (unless done by Porsche) would be an aftermarket addition (the paint) and so could invalidate your warranty.

To check, phone PGB and if they're OK with this being done either by Porsche (check this) or A.N.Other (which I doubt) ask them to put it in writing to you.

Don't trust your OPC to tell you what's what when it comes to warranties. I did and found myself with a void warranty.

Also, ask your insurer if they're OK with either mod before doing anything non-standard. They may say no.

You raise some very valid points. I probably won't get the calipers done, hence looking an additional set of wheels would be easier.
