Hi Everyone!

Long term lurker and (potentially soon to to be owner!) here, looking for some advice if possible

Yesterday I went to look at a Cayman S as a private sale and it drove great, it has 50k miles, overall great condition, chrono, pasm, bose, extended leather, sports wheel, pdk, white, carrera classsic wheels, gts taillights, serviced ontime at all but one opc / specialist. The big options it dosn't have is the PSE (but I can always retro fit) and upgraded seats (but the standard ones still seemed good, to me) and I think normal headlights

On top of this, the buyer seemed like an honest chap who is into cars and happy for the car to go to garage of my choice for a PPI - at this stage I assuming the PPI will come back more or less clean as he had one done himself and he seems very confident in the car

Now the downsides... the car has 5 owners on the V5 meaning I would be the 7th if I bought it and I would be selling to the 8th when the time came. I would like to keep the car for at least a year or two but trying to sell to the 8th owner on a 2013 car in say 2 years time seems like a very hard sell indeed

Additionally, the car needs new disks, pads and tyres all round, and is due a service, which is an "interim service". The car is up for 36.5k, I think the seller will negotiate but I don't see him going below £35k. If you have got this far, thank you! My questions in priority order are as follows, all help (and any other advice you have) all greatly received:

- Do you think the price is fair if I could get to £35k in the current market for what I have described above?
- How much should I worry about being the 7th owner and how much do you think this affects the value?
- Any views on what the brakes and service are likley to cost, to help me negotiate? (I will research these myself today)
- What would you do if you were me?
- Any other advice?

Thank you in advance!

Seems pricey for a private sale. Have a look at comparable OPC cars. What are they going for?
They ought to be 10k more.
5k dealer margin and 5k of service/discs/pads/tyres.
I looked at a private 2 owner 2013 GB launch S, with every option fitted, in 2015 and that was only 40k 7 years ago.
I'd have thought £30k tops, but others may disagree.
What else have you seen?

NB. Just had a look at comparable cars for sale on PH only. Have you had a look?
I'd say walk away from that one at anything over £30k for sure. I've only had a look at the front page of each one here but I'd be thinking £27,500 for that one.
Why not run it through wbac and see what they'd offer him? I'd guess £25k.

I would compare it against this as a benchmark of similar spec.

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202205065...

Unsure how many prior owners it's had but seems to have the same spec and more, such as PSE, the natural leather sports seats and full official Porsche service history.

If that has had less owners, coupled with the higher spec (i think, but only you'd know) then maybe £35K is about right, by comparison.
Its £2k more, so ask yourself is PSE and better seats and full history (and maybe less owners) worth more than £2K.

Could be a red herring, but like others have said, best to compare as only you'd know as you haven't shared a link to what you have your eye on.

Good disks and pads all round are going to be close to the £1000 mark, a set of tyres eagle f1’s or MPS4S’ will be around £800 and a minor service at an indie around £350 or so.

The options sound good and as you say up you could add PSE or try the carnewal exhaust mod for a lot cheaper.

The owners wouldn’t necessarily bother me if the condition of the car was great, but the inspection sounds wise - sounds like the owner wants to get shot before having to spend a load of cash -is there anything else they have skimped on, are the condensers ok for example?

Hi Everyone, thank you for all the replies so far, very helpful

My gut is telling me the car in the original post probably isn't the one for me and that seems to be the consensus here too

I did actually look at another car yesterday to help with comparison, which was fully spec and dealer 12 month warranty (link below), which I actually liked more (the pse made a big difference to my ears!) - only issue is the interior... I could probably look past it given the spec, but a bit worried about impact on resale, appreciate any thoughts that people would like to share:

If you can go up to 40k then it may also get you into an early 718 Base which is not only slightly quicker than a 981S but will also be much newer, you get the more up to date PCM4.0 with all the chassis / handling improvements and they all came with a better base spec (more options included as standard.)

Thank you, I currrently have heart set on 981 simply for the noise, although it's also better than my previous cars in many other ways (previously M2 and vantage)

It’s a bit chintzy perhaps, but very nice. I still think the one I posted above is far nicer and better specced.

That interior wouldn’t put me off at all personally, think beige/tan on black exterior looks great, particularly with the split colour interior on the dash.

Looks a very nice car.

It didn't, but thank you to Julian for posting it by way of comparison

Thank you for all the replies and thoughts - based on the responses here and also from some additional research it seems like lots of people do like the 2 tone interior of black and beige

On that basis (I can look past it and it shouldn't be a problem come re-sale), I decided to go for the car in the link I posted! All things being well, I collect on Wednesday biggrin

Thank you to eveyone who posted with thoughts and advice, they were all very helpful - I will upload some pics when I can

Have you ever had a black car before?
If so, you'll know the problem.
If not, good luck.

I have one with FPSH and warranty and PCCB, manual and buckets if you are interested. Loud exhaust PSE - louder than a GTS. I have just acquired a gt4 so might need to sell one
