Got a quote the other day to replace exhaust flange bolts which were found to be corroded during the health check.

Quote is £700 though - am I missing something or is that not like 50 quid worth of parts and an hour’s labour?

Ridiculous. All these bolts from Porsche rust. I wouldn’t replace them unless there’s a problem with the part. If something needs sorting in future and they won’t budge then they could be cut off and extracted. It sounds like you’re been quoted for that eventuality already. They should have some protection put on them when new as they’re totally exposed to the elements in the 911.

Really. that was the only thing that was found to be amiss at the 111 checks for 718S I purchased from a non OPC dealer. I was told it would be a 2 hour job by the OPC. That probably explains the quote you were given. I have asked the dealer I purchased the car from to replace them free of charge. I am sure it would be much cheaper with a non OPC specialist

I think it might only be 4 bolts, so if that’s the case I’ll do it myself. Just wondered genuinely if I’d missed something, given the price.

Last year I was quoted £1,469 from OPC to replace exhaust nuts/bolts, clamps & gaskets after manifolds.

Went to JAZ who did the job for circa £250. No coffee or croissants though.

My friend had a quote from his OPC for £3k to replace all the corroded parts under his C2S, just over 12 months after he’d bought it from them with warranty…

Obviously none of the parts were covered by the warranty but as there was no mention whatsoever upon delivery that this could be an imminent large expense…he was pretty miffed so say the least..

They would not budge on price even as a goodwill gesture..

Took it to a local Indy instead in the end who did it for way less than half the price…

He’s not been back to an OPC since, for anything…

$1500 for a $120 VW battery. It did come with installation though. Having installed the battery I make that $1380/hr labor…. Assuming a 1 hour minimum charge.

If they're corroded but not actually broken, why do they need replacing?

Sounds like an unnecessary job?

Not a 911, but just had new rear silencers replaced on the 981, all 4 bolts fairly rusty and well stuck. Took 2 hours to get off, along with the two silencers and put the new ones on. Total cost £120

I had corroded exhaust fixings and backbox fixings replaced on my 986 Boxster S at an OPC a couple of weeks ago for £646. That includes 2.5 hrs labour on my invoice.
Which makes me think i should go back to an indie now. I was lured back to OPC by the Porsche Classic Register and one very reasonable service cost but now they are clawing it all back and everytime it goes in they want to do £2k of work.
I dodged £2k this time around on bump stops and power steering line.. It's got to the point where i am starting to consider getting rid of the 986 as I'm also running a 991.2 GTS so it's getting expensive.

Is there a reason that anti-seize is not applied to the threaded fasteners at the factory? Presumably to save $5 and a few minutes of time?

Manifold flange bolts? (Might need drilling out and retapping) or manifold to mid section bots? (Literally 6 bolts as you say, and they wouldn’t even replace with stainless)

First option about right if half of them need drilling, second option, why not DIY it and use stainless? Or titanium for additional race..
