981 Boxster GTS…am I going mad?
Discussion
Wow what a day!
Happy Birthday to me indeed. And thanks guys for the good wishes.
Well, it’s done. Special thanks to my lovely wife who went with me and has acutely paid for half the car!
The sellers were lovely and a good deal was done that we are all happy with. It’s the 50k car that’s on auto trader in Huntingdon by the way. It’s almost perfect, a couple of things to sort out.
Done my first mod already!

Further evidence of the over pricing is beginning to reverse

Another £5K off and I might take a trip to Byfleet.................
I went to see it when it was 61,995. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202208068...

It’s a beautiful car with all the spec.
But that price is still too high. The one I bought was near identical, a few spec items missing, no warranty though, for 15k less.

The trade bid on my 981 BGTS this week was as derisory as expected, although at the top of the range I'd set in my head. Nonetheless, I'll stick it in the garage over winter and reassess in the spring.
I'm unsure where the market for used pork is going to go, usually it is resilient to market forces but this feels like challenging times coming up.
Unless the unemployment rate suddenly sky rockets,I think the market will remain ok, just some softening of prices rather than a plunge. I'm unsure where the market for used pork is going to go, usually it is resilient to market forces but this feels like challenging times coming up.
If companies really start shedding jobs, that’s when it’s time to reconsider your long term plans.
No one is talking about unemployment rates yet. Our company had Loads of vacancies (big IT).
I did here that first time buyers have evaporated in the housing market though.
Bit of an update after 6 months ownership.
Car hasn’t missed a beat. It lives outside because I don’t have a garage but I do use a canvas hood cover during most weather.
Costs so far:
New centre caps: £160
New tyres: £780 (4 x Goodyear Eagle F1)
Porsche inspection: £315 (fully passed no issues)
Warranty £1320 (2 years via Porsche)
8 year service £1425
Car now at 21500 miles. Sounds brilliant at full throttle. Surprisingly good fuel economy when on non sport mode. Brilliant stereo (Bose). Interior is so plush, and like brand new.
Absolutely no regrets with this particular car. I think it was the best one I could buy for the money at the times, and had everything I thought I wanted at the time.
But I would make a few changes.
The seats are not as adjustable as they could be, so 18 way would perhaps have been better. (Only has 2 way electric) However, the seats themselves are not the best I’ve ever sat in, I’d prefer better seats. The wife’s Audi TTS is much nicer seating. No extending thigh support. And you sit maybe an inch or two too high.
The steering wheel. I don’t like alcantera much. It’s only the finger tips that bugs me. But it feels a bit weird. Also, I’d like multi function, but retaining the paddles. Is it possible to switch the wheel out to a more modern design?
Wind buffeting. With the roof down, despite the defusers, there’s too much buffeting, my left ear in particular freezes if I’m not wearing a cap. Maybe using it abroad in summer will feel better,
I’ll need to fit cruise control.

Steering wheel was £1100 brand new, airbag £300 of eBay and electronic box of tricks to make multifunction work £300 - an expensive upgrade but I didn’t have the nice Sport Design wheel, I had the awful multifunction optional wheel.
It sits 5mm lower than X73 suspension, the spacers accentuate it looking lower as wheels aren’t tucked and I have got some camber front and rear.
Side pods eBay specials but fit & finish superb.
The wheel is rather expensive upgrade. I have the sport wheel with paddles, so it’s probably not going to get replaced. It sits 5mm lower than X73 suspension, the spacers accentuate it looking lower as wheels aren’t tucked and I have got some camber front and rear.

Will have a search for the side pods.
Your car looks mean. The wheels look great.

Look what's turned up on Autotrader this week

I'm sure it's the same car. When it went off AT towards the end of 2022, I thought it had sold but obviously not as still showing two owner car..
I will use this as proof to show the wife that my better specced GTS with similar mileage bought 10 months ago for substantially less money is a brilliant investment as it’s clearly going up in value even when times are hard like they are. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202304286...

Saw a Carmine red car parked up today and reminded me how good these still look. I remember sitting in one probably 6/7 years ago thinking what a lovely place to be.
I’m after something to accompany the GT4 and Macan at least for summer.
Toying with one of these / 718 GTS 2.5 / the new civic type R / 997 GTS.

Mine. It looks great. But then the noise. Omg, sends shivers up your spine.
The 2.5 GTS is probably faster in a modern turbo way. It depends what you want.
New civic? Oh dear. I’m sure it’s mind bendingly rapid. But, just look.

Here we have another bonkers overpriced GTS
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202305217...
WBAC value it at £40K, AT suggest advertising it at £45K as a Private Seller, if this one sells close to asking all you guys who already have your GTS's keep hold of them as it looks like their only going one way. At these prices Spyder's are looking cheap and there are plenty of low mileage ones available. One consolation I suppose is that the £60K I have set aside for my GTS/Spyder is now growing by £3K per year.................
It would be £65k is it wasn’t in such a wk colour…. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202305217...
