but the half cage and harnesses in it put me off a bit,
I hear you. Mine had no cage when I bought it, I had a full cage and harnesses fitted. If I sold it I think most potential buyers would see it as bad rather than good.

I've had mine for eight years and although there have been some big bills, particularly this year, it's a twenty year old car with 150,000 miles and it gets driven in all weathers and occasionally driven quite hard so I accept that. I've often thought about what I could buy for the money I'd get for the 968 and always concluded that there is nothing as versatile or as enjoyable to drive. My only two criticisms are a slight lack of power, in that the chassis could take more, and the CS suspension is no fun on rough surfaces.

Probably, the CS seems to attract more bean counting polishers than drivers now. Are you thinking of selling ?
I think a lot of folk are sceptical about work being done as well, unless it's by someone they know or they've had it done themselves (memories of threads about disintegrating brake adapters!).

I don't think I'd sell it as I don't know what I would replace it with! It's a fun drive, and whilst not the most modern place to be it really is very engaging.

Sorry PC - I didn't see your comment when I replied to Blade. Agree about the suspension - I had a MO30 specced Sport, whereas when I got the CS it had standard suspension. I changed it for KW3 which I find very good, and personally I prefer it to the MO30, although it is just a personal preference.

I regularly see two other 968s on my drive to work - plenty in the NW. Let me know if you find yourself up this way looking at any.

Overfilling will usually get you home, but you need to drastically overfill. If you lose oil pressure and adding a large amount of oil restores the pressure, then its almost certainly a fractured oil pickup pipe.

This has happened to a number of people that I know now, on completely standard cars.
Yup - my garage had to put about 2l into mine to get oil pressure back after this happened to me.

My 944 Turbo is far from standard but it was a big job to sort out, a real ball ache on a turbo as so much has to be removed. The while you're in there jobs consisted of new big end bearings, baffled sump and the new pickup tube having a brace welded to it too.

CoB's Sport has got CS stickers on it and probably a CS chassis number too smile.
I always liked the white car scripted to match wheels. The chassis number when speaking to Porsche, does get confirmed as such every time, yet isn't a problem to me. I asked them for a spec print when I was there once.

I think it's ten years this year that I've had mine. It had a full top end rebuild at an OPC at just over 100k which cost the last owner about 3.5k. No engine rattles here thanks, and still no pinion noise or excess gear lever play as with others I tested. It was more original than others too back then.

I know I've barely driven it for years, but It was always great, especially on regular long journeys to the South coast when I used it, 800 mile weekends or more.

I don't know what I would compare about these cars with an M3, but then it's not my comparison, you could compare it to a Focus ST if it meant something to you I suppose. There's not really much point comparing these with other newer cars at all is there now? When, aside from the recognition that newer cars can be had for less, as the 968 starts to appreciate, then later cars having evolved in all sorts of ways, not all good though, one can possibly expect to get more for the money all round. That happens with them all though doesn't it? Claimed as progress.

As the 968 only had ABS and power steering, maybe comparisons could be with other cars that can be hustled along like a standard Sport or CS, but with all the gadgets turned off and still in totally standard form? See which one can hack it? The point is, it was quite remarkable as a standard vehicle, possibly disproportionately so when tried against another 'evolved' model.

Most have changed hands many times by now, but so many owners seem to have fond memories of how good they were, and I wonder if that occurs as often with the car that replaced them.

The interior is pretty much all removed now and sits on and around my 1996 Spi Cooper35 which I bought new, and also don't use, while the Sport has been stashed in a body shop for just over a year. I do miss driving it, possibly because it is one of those cars that just gets better the longer the journey is. In fact I miss sitting in it haha.

I'll go and see it soon, maybe make a decision on some stuff and get it on it's way, staying Grand Prix white if it doesn't go to someone that wants a different colour beforehand. I was tempted by Riviera Blue, but people are starting to seek original cars now, and there aren't many in general.

I appreciate the answers given after my ill-thought out question a couple of weeks or so ago.

What is the NVH like in a Sport (and CS)? Mainly focussing on the noise part? Obviously it's somewhat subjective, but are they noticeably louder than your average early 90s 'sports' car? An E36 M3 for example.

I don't want to sound like an old man but if I did get a 968 it would most likely be my only car, and while I don't mind a hard ride I don't get on with noisy cabins - I've got tinnitus and have had enough of road/tyre/engine noise dominating my driving. A nice exhaust note at higher revs and induction noise around WOT is fine but a loud drone while cruising at 70mph gets to me.

my glorious guards red 968 cs was my third Porsche after a 944s2 and a 964 c4. on reflection I enjoyed owning it more than I did driving it...

the 944s2 felt more special as it was my first and the 964 delivered what I wanted from a Porsche in terms of expectations.... the cs didn't really feel that special to drive largely because it wasn't different enough from the 944 and didn't connect emotionally...

The 968 Sport is a quiet car inside, as in, can drive it all day and love it quiet for what it is. A 3.0ltr 4 pot that doesn't need high revs to press on, assuming a standard exhaust, is a nice thing. I think so anyway, better than some new things, and I get to drive a variety in the trade.

Thanks, I assume that was atleast in part a reply to my question.

Saw a grey 968 today on the A1, just looked great. I definitely need to get one out of my system one way or another.
