I've had my 968 about 10 years, and am still learning about it from others who clearly know an awful lot more.

One the guys at 9m said the CS uses two slave controls for the central locking, rather than master and slave on the other models (marginal weight saving).

As I speak my battery is on charge.....

Would you be the Fraser that I bought a pair of Sport spec seats from about seven years ago? I met you at the services on the M6 toll as I recall.

Pretty good on the whole thanks but the 968 has been SORNed for a few months now with no sign of my being able to change that which is a nuisance.

Yep that's right smile

My other half was made redundant at the start of the winter and is still looking for a job. That coincided with the tax and insurance falling due so I SORNed it. It's also due a major service and has one or two other things to be fixed before it goes back on the road. It's just a question of cash really.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still going to Le Mans and doing other stuff (cricket is my other passion) but there have to be priorities.

It puzzles me as to why Porsche felt the need to make the boot entry full electronic.

On a pre '88 944 the key barrel operates the hatch release linkage mechanically, along with the electronic footwell release which actuates a motor that pulls on the same linkage that the key barrel operates.

Yet from '88 onwards they replaced the mechanical barrel linkage, and just use the keyturn to operate a micro switch which then triggers the motor to pull the release linkage.

What was wrong with just leaving it as it was!!?? Can't see what was gained.

At best case a flat battery means crawling through the boot, worst case it will involve having to jack and jumper the car!!

That is not progress imo!!

That's all a bit unfortunate. Sorry.

We get to Le Mans each year, so if you're there this year it will be good to catch up? Sadly taken an estate car for the past few years (clearly taking too much junk) took the 968 the first few - great fun.

Definitely. We'll have to stay in touch. One of the great things about LM is catching up with people during the weekend.

We are camping at the Porsche Curves with Lycian. No shame in the estate car, we're travelling 4up in a VW camper van. I've always taken the 968 to Classic LM though.

All good James, and we can pick up nearer the time.

We're on Maison Blanche, and I'm sure we can get over to t'curves, or meet you nearer start / finish. Peter who put you in touch with me for the seats you bought is also there again this year, so I will tap him and see if we can catch up with him too.

There are a few of us who catch up every year over there and we've also bumped into some others from the 968 community over the years (big Dave, frogisland, will dew, and pjs).

Nice to touch base again after all the years in between.

Best,

Fraser.

Hey there,
So, turns out I have the same problem as some of you with my 968, only I let the battery run “too” flat: the booster on the starter trick won’t work.
I’m working on my thieving skills, but I am concerned that this will happen again, as my Camaro doesn’t get driven much.
Anybody find a long term solution?

The booster trick worked for me, both with a flat battery and a disconnected battery so I think it should work for you.

I realise this reply is bit late to be helpful...

Instead of a booster, try it with another car battery and some jump leads.
