Then you need to get some 16"s

If you really want to stick to 17 then 225/45 front and 255/40 rear.

Best for buck - Falken. Fk453
Others- Conti sport contact or Bridgestone S02.

From memory correct sizes for S2 is 7 fronts and 8 rears.

I did run 8's all round on my track car years ago. I guess 7's all round wouldn't hurt.

Check ebay - normally loads of d90's for sale but beware bidding against VW fanboys they'll push the prices of anything 'chromed' or 'polished' through the roof.

That'll be a no then.

S2 has abs and bigger calipers so early 944 wheels won't fit.

If you had a full set of rears that might work.. I did that with 16" tele dials.

Had a quick poke about on eBay and there are a few sets at around the £300 mark.

Handling and road holding aren't the same thing, For the best grip and probably faster progress, I'd look for D90's in 8" and 9" sizes.

225/45/17 all round would be better. 255 rears are ridiculous on a 944.

I certainly wouldn't, and I don't jump on the 'err.. ditchfinders!' bandwagon.

Nankang or Nexen wouldn't draw a comment (Nankang NS2-Rs would interest me, though), but Id probably avoid the tyres that you are suggesting.

Toyo, Fulda, Kumho and Falken all make good tyres at a more sensible price.

If you don't use the car much in the wet (when they will probably be dreadful, bordering on dangerous) you could always just give them a go for that money - if they're no good just buy something decent instead, you'll probably get at least half your money back on the cheap ones on eBay.

I've been using R1R as my road tyres because I didn't get on with them as 'list 1b wets' - and they are superb. Stickier than any road tyre for high speed grip yet deep treads for wet conditions. Soft rubber seems to be lasting way longer than I ever imagined. I like them as road tyres as much as I disliked them for racing. Don't bother if you just do motorway miles though.

Agreed - works well IMO. Maybe not on 9" rears though... 16" Cups (from a 968 - were they ever options for an S2?) would be my favourite for the S2 on the road.

Fuchs won't fit but never mind, I'll take them off your hands to save you weighing them in... smile

I agree. Most '9" rears' are actually 8.5" though, as they came from Boxsters. 8.5" wheels all round with 225/45/17 tyres, or maybe even 235/35/17s which Ive run on a track car, would be better still.

I have 3 sets of 16 inch D90s available in various widths and offsets if interested.

2 sets need refurb
