Hi guys, currently looking at new cayenne, have an offer of the v6 std petrol or the std diesel.
It's for my 80 year old dad to replace an original V8 S so not interested in 0 to 60 etc etc.
I fancy the diesel, he fancies the petrol mainly because its 4.5k cheaper.
Any thoughts or comments, or anyone got the latest 295 bhp ? Petrol care to comment.

The diesel drives fantastic. Plenty quick enough. I'm pretty certain he would more than recoup the extra 4.5k of the diesel when he sells. As good as they drive - the petrol's aren't popular.

Thanks, this is the latest 3.6 which I just found a test / review on.
They are calling it a bit of a bargain with only negative the 21mpg.
I would tend to agree on resale, however we have had the last one since new in 2004 and he won't sell that due to making a loss smile

I get around 35mpg on average out of my V6 diesel but on a good run can see 40. Even had it up to 45 pootling down the A1 once smile

Think he is going to go for the petrol, anyone here got or tried the latest model ?

Diesel all the way, if you use the car around town these cars are all about torque and the nature of the turbodiesel suits it surprisingly well.

V6: 400 Nm @ 3000 rpm
V6 Diesel: 580 Nm @ 1750-2500 rpm

no comparison.

What's his annual mileage, as I think that would be a factor. If low miles then why not go for the petrol?

I have the Turbo S v8 petrol, it has the power to stop the earths rotation but boy do you pay for it, but what a machine.

Just an update.
we ordered the new 2015 3.6 V6 petrol yesterday, due next week.

we have only done 50k miles in the V8S since 2004 most of those commuting to Geneva and the like and I have used for ski trips a few times so the fuel costs not an issue really, I personnaly get a bit of a kick out of knowing Im doing 40mpg rather than 20mpg but as he points out you can do an awful lot of miles on £4.5k

Def go for the Diesel - the residual is much higher and you will recoup more than £4.5k come sale time.

It's an engine that really suits the car.

As the car is for the OPs father and he is paying for it I am glad that he bought the petrol he wanted.

Would have been the diesel for me to, something nice about knowing your doing 35mpg v 25mpg at best.
as you say his car and money, and the difference in cost buys a lot of petrol, I was more questioning if anyone had tried the new V6 petrol model, with the old entry level V6 everyone said for the very small saving in fuel consumption your better off with the V8 petrol, that was a good few years ago and pre diesel so just curious to what the new 300bhp model is like, our V8S has 350bhp from memory.

I thought the V6 petrol had been out out of it's misery...but never mind, I'd have gone Diesel too. Much better proposition all round.

I've had brief drives in the petrol and diesel as courtesy cars, and my choice would be the Diesel V6.

Creamy smooth engine with very responsive performance from low down. Amazing economy, apparently, and I would assume better residuals.
