UK 951 Race Cars - Where are they?

What makes it an amazing platform then, out of curiosity?
That video doesn't really sell the 944; it is extremely modified and yet gets in the way at every corner.
Let's bring some balance into the debate, shall we? That video doesn't really sell the 944; it is extremely modified and yet gets in the way at every corner.

Jeez! Not seen that one before, how say's the 944 sounds boring eh!.. Obviously that's a very well developed car, but no doubt so are the modern GT spec cars it's racing. Very impressive.Quick update on my build: the car is currently at Nickson Motorsport for a bespoke roll cage install. I should get it back in a few weeks time

After much deliberation I've decided I'm building my 951 to run in CSCC Future Classics; it's going to be a reasonably sensible spec .......
Over the last few months I've been doing a ton of reading up on other 944/951 club cars and also Cup cars, but all the info on the web relates to cars overseas and it seems that hardly anyone (possibly no one at present in club circuit racing) races 951's in the UK. Yet the yanks are mad for it, using them from everything from production classes right through to full on GT endurance racers. There seem to be a few being used in Europe too, including a few Cup still being used in anger. So clearly they offer a great package for racing at a club level.
So where are they all folks?

Built for the PCGB Club Championship and then used in the Porsche Open. More recently used in the Porsche Open in Ireland and last raced in Ireland by Jamie Chadwick (2015 British GT4 champion, Aston Martin GT4) whilst she was chasing signatures for her International Licence about a year ago......

Have a look from about 10 mins 16 secs in.......
It will be in my garage, and coming to a CSCC Future Classics race soon, hopefully.
I couldn't help myself.
I tried to ignore the temptation but couldn't!

The car looks very well set up too, much quicker through the corners than the 911.
Any joy selling the 924s yet?
I wish I had 10% of her talent.Any joy selling the 924s yet?
No joy selling the 924S. Most people want me to break it and give me peanuts. I may just put the nice bits like the ECU, cam, fuel pressure regulator, gearbox etc in to an old cheap 944 road car and sell/ scrap the bits that are left, cage, plastic Windows, shell etc.
Shame, it looks like a good buy for the money but I guess most people buying a ready prepped car just want to buy something they can jump in and go so the engine work probably puts them off... Still I'm sure you could easily make your price back on breaking it and still keep some of the nice bits back for use on another car.
Look forward to seeing the 951!

Had a good day at Donington, thanks. Not a big grid of only 12 cars but that suited me really, for my first time out. I qualified 2 secs faster than I have been round there in the 24S and was very pleased with that.
You may say that's what I should have done, in a more powerful car but having not driven the car before I didn't know how it would handle or perform.
The car drove very nicely and was really enjoyable and handled well. Again, I didn't know whether it would be set up different to the 24S but it was similar and that gave me confidence. Car was quick in a straight line, too.
only issues were slightly spongy brakes (old fluid?) and a very very slight oil seal from the sump.
I had a reasonable start in the race and got past a couple of the Morgan's but my competition in a TR7V8 was gone! Well, he does have 330 bhp and probably weighs 100kg less than me at least.
it started to drizzle and the track became very greasy and I had a moment at the Old Hairpin but controlled it. I also took another Morgan around the outside at Redgate which I was pleased about!
my fastest race lap was 2 secs slower than I had practiced but the TR7s was 5 secs slowerk, due to the conditions, so all in all a good day, and I finished 2nd in class.
I am very pleased with the car.

Photos from Sunday from one of the photogs I vaguely know, featuring my car along with my 2 friends from the (unofficial) Castle Donington Motor Club.

It's a coincidence we all have red cars, honest.

Poor day at Anglesey today, but at least we finished with everything on the car in the same place, and pointing in the same direction, as when we started!
Qualified ok and was happy with the car, but I had a spin on the first lap avoiding others in a real brown trouser momen, and was then thankfully missed by several other cars, to be last at the end of lap 1.
I passed a couple of cars back but then completely over drove and was ragged for the rest of my stint, and therefore slower than practice. Well, it was only my second time in the car and only second race in last 9 months! A very botched pit stop added to our woes and we finished last several laps down.
The car was fine, although I dont think we got the tyre pressures right all day, as it just felt "squidgy" and not as planted as last time, but it was the drivers that were the real problem, and certainly I never felt that I was in the right gear in the twisty stuff. Time for a track day to get some seat time I think.
Oh well, it's still better than going to Homebase.

I guess racing is very much about taking the rough with the smooth! Or at least it is for me... Sounds like as you say, some more seat time will help.
If it still has a stock turbo final drive the gearing isn't right for tighter circuits in my experience, so that may explain why you didn't feel the gearing was right. Way down the priority list on mine I would like to change the crown-wheel and pinion. But right now it would be nice just to have a working car!
I'm certainly not going to make Donnington sadly, but I'm flirting with the idea of entering the Open at Oulton just as a shake-down. That's if it's ready!!

First lap from a car behind me on the grid: watch me avoid a stationary Ginetta G50 offthe start and the spin at Rocket corner! 2 x brown trouser moments.

Changing the final drive sounds expensive, and not exactly off the shelf either.Mine has been a race car for a long time, so may be previous owners have explored this? No idea, but I think I just have to get used to driving it.
Hmm, I still have the 924S, and that has the closest ratios of any in the 924S/ 944 range, and presumably the lower FD that you describe, I wonder if it's easier to fit the LSD from the turbo box into that, and if it's strong enough?
(It's also got a vey nice change quality due to the JMG front and rear quick shift kit)
