2015 Cayenne S Diesel

I have owned several Porsche's over the years - currently I have a 997 Gen 2 as a daily drive (only a few miles to work/back & a few miles at weekend). My wifey has a Shogun which she loves - getting on a little 88K miles 56 plate which has been our main car & tow car for the horse box. I'am happy with the 997; but just contemplating what next scenario. We might keep the Shogun but start to retire it a bit & may sell the 997 & get a new Cayenne S diesel. it seems it would satisfy me in having the ooomph over the standard diesel & would be good for towing the horse box, room for dogs in the back, weekend trips away etc. Thoughts from those who have the latest iteration of the Cayenne S diesel. What's it like to own. Has anyone gone from 911 to Cayenne S diesel.

Hi there,used to own a 997 carrers s and changed it to a Cayenne 245 diesel then changed it to a Cayenne S diesel in October 2013.The Cayenne S diesel is well worth the extra outlay over the 3.0.Economy is not a lot worse about 3mpg in daily driving.Put your foot down it turns into a V8 musclecar with soundtrack to match.Make sure you get badge delete because nobody will know its a diesel.
Currently driving a new model Cayenne e hybrid also very impressive wih the added benefit of first year 100% WDA and £0 road tax!.Although since the threshold has been lowered to 75g/km on April 1 2015 WDA does not qualify so get a S diesel.

The Cayenne S Diesel is a really good car to get, if what you are after is a bit of oomph for easy overtakes, space for kids/dogs/luggage etc and the ability to tow. I went from a Cayenne Diesel to the S after a test drive. TBH I was quite happy with the standard Diesel and just wanted a test drive for a comparison, but the difference was night and day and Edinburgh OPC had a cancellation at just the right time.
I don't need the load carrying ability of the Cayenne all the time, but it easily swallows the snowboarding gear for 3 and transports them in comfort. I mainly use the towbar for a bike carrier, but when I've put a trailer on it barely knows it's there, even with a tonne of gravel in it. It'd tow more I'm sure but the trailer was the limiting factor.
Recently I've been wondering what to replace the Cayenne with, the choices have been a RS6 and not much else. I still want the space, the oomph, the towing capability and the 4 wheel drive for the winters.
I do fit Winter Tyres, regardless of the 4 wheel drive, on snow I think the normal tyres would be 'fun to drive on' and the outlay of winter tyres and rims is cheaper than a slow slide into a kerb and the dent to the pride that would go with it.

When i got my new cayenne e hybrid October 2014 and ran it through my business in effect got a 42% discount due to 1st year WDA so 42% cheaper than cayenne s diesel.I hope the tax inspector doesn't read PH forums but it was a perfectly legal tax reducing government scheme.

Very interesting. I'am a little way off in making that decision (also still enjoying the 997). So, haven't driven the latest Cayenne's yet. But just going on you tube reviews the Diesel S seems awesome - lovely V8 growl. I'am wrestling however with the cost difference of the standard diesel & the S diesel. Being very careful on the spec the S diesel for me comes out at just over £70K compared with the standard which come out at £57K with a slightly better spec. As I I'll be doing a PCP finance there is a big difference. But I'am sure if I test drove both cars I am sure my heart would rule my head smile Particularly as I have owned several 911s. I also just fancy something different when its time to move the 997 on. The other poss is keep the 997 & get the standard Cayenne diesel.

I've got a 996 Turbo S and a 2014 Cayenne Diesel (the standard 3.0 V6). 911 and sensible Cayenne is a good combination assuming you have the space. Regardless of how much power and torque you give the Cayenne, it will never be an especially sporty drive - it can be very quick cross country, and fun in a defying-physics sort of way, but it isn't the type of car you would take for a drive for the hell of it.

If money was no object, I would have paid the extra for the V8 diesel, especially having experienced how well the baby version goes and handles. I often think the perfect every day car for us would be a Cayenne Turbo and someone else's fuel card; the V8 diesel seems like a good compromise on the fuel situation! However I definitely couldn't live with the Cayenne in place of a genuinely quick and fun car.

Next time I have my eye on whatever the plug in hybrid evolves into for the next generation Cayenne. I experienced the S Hybrid drivetrain in a Panamera a few weeks ago and loved it, so with a few more years' technology refinement it will be perfect for our family wheels.

It's a tricky one. have loved all my 911s & have missed them when I sell them. But find myself mainly just trundling to work/back & odd short weekend jaunt in the 997. But for fun (& assuming good weather) I tend to have a blast on my 1000CC fireblade. I thought maybe the Cayenne diesel S would get more use & still has the ooophm. But there might be an option to keep the 997 & get a standard Cayenne diesel.

Ah, there you go - I don't have a fast bike, so the 996 is where I get my thrills. I can see you might struggle to get enough use out of a bike, a 997 *and* a Cayenne, so bike and Cayenne V8 sounds like a better combo :-)
