My local OPC gave me a Macan Turbo for a day when sorting out some niggles on my new Cayenne Diesel S Plat Edition.

The Macan was a very nice place to be, lots of kit and the sound with the sports exhaust was amazing.

However list on that was what I paid for my heavily specced SD brand new and personally I would not have paid it.

It felt small inside, similar size to my previous SQ5 but also felt cheaper inside than my SD (unsure why!)

I got £12k off list on my SD and would reccomend it wholeheartedly. Have a scout to see what is around if you fancied going that big as the engine is a total peach and there is more than enough room in the cabin and boot!

Thats a really interesting image.

I had a Macan Diesel S for a week during last summer whilst my 991 GT3 had a fault investigated. I loved it so much I was planning to get a Macan sometime this year.

However with the great deals to be had on Cayenne Diesel Platinum editions I picked up a new very nicely specced one last Saturday. If anything I like it more than the Macan. Both had air suspension and lots of toys.

I find it amazing how agile these beasts can be to be honest.

Really impressed. That said a Macan is a great place to be too.

Fred

Not as nicely specified as yours mate but I'm happy.

Purpurite metallic
air with pasm
pan roof
Bi-Xenon in black
Park assist + camera
21 inch Sport Edition wheels in satin platinum
Sports tailpipes in black
Driver memory package
Heated wheel
Digital radio

The colour is amazing. I probably slightly regret not getting an S but there is always next time, to be honest the performance feels pretty strong and with the GT3 its best of both worlds I think. Golf R, Boxster and Evo VI in the fleet too so like to think I've got most things covered :-)

You have the main bits though, PASM AND Air for me is a must.

I do like the Purpurite metallic!

My now 3year old petrol S has been in the family for almost a year and is a great drive. Used as a daily driver it's also currently used as a weekender until i can save for a 911. A track outing late last year showed the true value of Sports Chrono, with quick changes, heaps of traction, strong brakes and the feeling of it really being a supersized Golf R. Up to 32mpg on the motorway helps compensate for the mid teens in my short daily commute

And just like all Porsches it had soft paint but that's been fixed with a ceramic coat

My gf needs a tall car with boot space for heavy large bags used for her job, she started talking about a Q2 or Q5 as meant easier to get things in and out of. (Q3 too dated)

Naturally I turned convo to a Macan, which has her interested. Standard 2.0 would do. She loves the luxury of Porsches. Note that refresh due. Worth it still in non S form?

I did point out a golf or A3 is all she really needs but boot height is a the thing. She isn't interested in estates.

I've had a non S since October and I prefer it to the diesel. Its plenty quick enough and sounds OK. Only downside is fuel consumption. Around town its a shade under 20mpg compared to 28 for the diesel. On the motorway I struggled to get over 30mpg on a 4 hour run (80mph).

Cracking car history there, thanks for your insight. I initially suggested an Evoque, she liked look of current X1 but neither really excited. Suprised by the ecomony figures there. It will be used around London so not keen on diesel with current climate.

Any must have options in your opinion?

Surprisingly poor fuel consumption.
Wife has GTS so more than 100 BHP more. We get 18 around town and 28 on 80mph run

Its just in the boost zone at 80. I suspect staying at 70-75 would improve that significantly. As for driving around town again if you can keep it below 3K rpm it will rise to mid to late 20s. But in stop start/traffic that's pretty hard to do.

As for options. It all comes down to what you consider important. Personally I would wait until the facelift arrives if you want a new one.

Not in my experience. A sensible motorway run at a steady 70-75 returns 25-26mpg at best. My average of all driving over 4000 miles is 20mpg :-(

My petrol S probably sits at about 20mpg long term average as i don't do many motorway miles. My 3.5 mile commute can take me 30-40 minutes so i get about 14mpg, maybe. On the motorway here in Aus with strictly enforced limes of 62-68mph I can get 28-32 Mpg. Surprisingly, a brief excision on track it managed 12mpg i thought was pretty good.

It’s a size bigger - but worth comparing the Lexus RX. It’s a also a much more interesting looking thing - Audi & Porsche seem to have gone for anodyne as possible

Buying today - I still prefer the Diesel. Low to mid-range delivery and genuine 35-40 mpg.

Future legislation is uncertain, but lots of misinformation about diesel, and both they and petrols are likely to be similarly regulated as clean air rules favour hybrids and electric in the longer term.

I suspect economy won't be much better for her. S seems to be too much performance.

Looking at keeping fairly simple spec wise. Might try the parking top view but won't be goung unfortunately crazy. Probably even stick to the 18s!

Can't wait till facelift but might try a discount as its to be updated. Will see what can get.

I'll suggest it but not sure she'll like it!
