Simon is on the money as far as rust goes. He might be rude & grumpy but that's just the Yorkshire in him I think...
Most 944's were well used and not really cared for that well. They definitely rust. He highlighted the main problem areas.
Low mileage garage queens may be a different case.
By far the best preserved cars I looked at were so called "garage queens". Most 944's were well used and not really cared for that well. They definitely rust. He highlighted the main problem areas.

Do you remember the oft-repeated received wisdom about low mileage cars being crap and worn out cars being better, for nonsense reasons that I won’t repeat?
It wasn’t right, was it? Perhaps fifteen years ago now: this was the first topic that really aggravated me.

Finally I can contribute to this thread, just picked up a low owner 944 1987 2.5 and it was only 2 miles from my house as well.
Last owner has had it 9 years and the chap before him since 1990, both fro my town as well.
But, it does need some TLC, and the paint could do with some magic as well, but it's all road legal and usable.
There is a list of tidy up bits i'm accumulating as i go through some minor interior bodges, but all fixable so gives me something to work through. Just need to find the bits.
