Logically you are right.
However ,shallow as it most certainly is, the station wagon just looks so much better to me and is the first Pana I bought or even considered.
Fully agree with you there, would not consider the standard one - the new one is ok, but the older models all look a bit like a melted piece of butter to me ....

More sensible people than I am have made the point that:
-less performance than an AMG 63 estate car
-less luggage space than an E63
-definitely higher price
- not as versatile as a Cayenne Turbo.

There is in fact no good reason to buy one.

Except for one - : I just really liked it the minute I saw the concept car.

Fun to see, and more importantly to hearsmile. The grip on this car is dry conditions is just phenomenal - it is definitely much better than I was expecting. There is no logic to buying one of course, as the AMG can do as well or better with more luggage space and a lower price. It just seemed special to me, and it does feel superb to drive. I expect I will drive it until its pretty much worn out like the Cayenne. It will have some stories....

Finally got the protection complete..wrap can full front clip up tp A pillars, rear flares., mirrors and back bumper.
The ceramic coat over the lot. My detailer whom I know very well was not too impressed with the dealer prep open the paint, and spent a fair bit of time on correction, so its good now......

I have a new JB Panamera Sport Turismo and i love it..Can't think of a solitary reason why one would choose the saloon derivative over it unless the aesthetics don't appeal..I had a new Panamera saloon for about five months before it and they drive identically if the spec is similar.
Interestingly my saloon had RWS and my new one doesn't and i initially thought i'd miss it; however after some familiarisation i no longer feel its a 'must have' but more of a 'nice to have'..This is in complete contrast to various 991s i've either owned or driven where i feel RAS is transformative in its uncanny ability to banish understeer which afflicts all non RAS 991s.
Also 'Car and Driver's recent comparison test heavily criticised RAS on the Panamera saying it caused the steering to lack feel and basically ruined the car..!

I agree with your assessment and did not spec RWS on this car ( I have it on my 991RS where it is standard and works very well).
I specced torque vectoring, sport chrono etc..mainly the performance stuff, but saw no reason to pay a fortune for ceramics on a road car. I also did not feel I needed the hugely expensive Burmeister sound system. Yes to full leather and CF trim, also the insulated glass. 18 way seats.

The car is a delight to drive and I much prefer it aesthetically to the saloon, and was unable to find any performance between the saloon and the wagon.

Porsche have really got the looks right for this second iteration. Makes the original look bloated. Looks great in red although the wheels are a personal taste.

The interior looks a step up also.

Happy motoring!

The wheels are not for everyone smile. I have a second set of conventional Porsche rims with winter tires which are just fine but i like the red. My dealer was a bit shocked by the red wheels decision !

Personally I much prefer it on the winter wheels! The "softer" look makes it more friendly...

Curious, so you're having the car shipped over for a few months over summer just for the fun of it?

Yes..have done it before. No real way to get to the top of performance here except for track, and this is not my first choice for track. The actual reason is that Porsche suspended Euro delivery for a period due to a row over emissions, and this car was produced in that period. Just bad luck as I generally do factory. SO, back it goessmile...Toronto-Montreal-Halifax-Bremerhaven-Frankfurt. For the few weeks of fun its a long period..about a month in each end. Still, its part of the adventure. and I have other cars, so no worry.

I see, very cool! Factory delivery is something I'd love to do if I ever get to order a new Porsche.

Makes sense that RWS not as important for driving dynamics on this, but would it not help manoeuvrability at low speeds, given it's so big?

I'm probably going to buy one at the end of the year, definitely the ST over the coupe, as much prefer the looks.

Absolutely would help but am reasonably comfortable driving big cars. ( I will doubtless regret this when trying to manoeuvre through some mediaeval German village....)

As a current owner of a Panamera ST (non RWS) having chopped in my five month Panamera saloon (RWS) i can offer an insight..I am a huge fan of RWS on 991s and expected the same benefit for the Panamera however it never really materialised..As you say the main benefit should be reduced turning circle at parking speeds although again i found no real benefit.
The main impediment in parking the Panamera is its sheer size, both in length and width, neither can be overcome by the RAS. By far the biggest change i found between the RWS and non RWS is steering effort and feel..This might be down to the Power steering plus being standard with the RWS but an option otherwise and not fitted to mine..
After the initial shock between the steering effort and feel between the two i now much prefer the heavier and more feelsome steering on the non RAS car..I found the steering in the RWS way too light for my tastes but i much prefer a heavier rack anyway..
You really need to drive both versions back to back to decide what suits you, but don't expect the all positive transformative effect you get in 991s..

So far, the car has been 100% reliable.

Annoying items since first post include:

(1) The gloss haptic buttons attract fingerprints so a microfibre cloth is a must.

(2) While all controls operate properly, setting up the various functions to memory if tedious and the menu structure is not intuitive.

Good news is that this thing is an absolute blast to drivesmile....
