To be honest I’m not sure who I was referring to, some people love Panys, some not so much, we’re all different and lets face it, if “one” can afford a top Porsche model but chose not to = 1st world problem, and...... (getting back on track) someone else is the biggest Golf fan in the world.
Guess what, tommorow I pick up a 997TT Gen2, apparently, according to the internet of wise-ness they’re as boring a F**k!

Exciting David! Enjoy collection day. I know it's off-topic, but do let us know how you get on with the new car. The 997 Gen2 Turbo is something I quite fancy myself and there are some lovely examples available just now, especially at JZM where I was mooching around a few weeks ago.

I did something similar went from 997 C2S with sports exhaust to Pan turbo S (1st gen) via a merc CL600 because I wanted more space for growing family. Having had the panny for almost 2 years it is an amazing car for its size and build quality/ road handling far ahead of Merc/BMW. It is awesome but.. and there is always a but unless you want to use it as a daily car i would stick with a 911. The panamera is really too big for UK roads and you will probably count on the finger of one hand the number of times the family will all go out together in the Porsche. My kids prefer the SUV (no PH genes!) The panny in turbo guise even with sports exhaust is too refined and grown up. For a weekend blast get something more nimble, enjoys revving and has immediate response ie a N/A engine. In fact I am looking to go the other way either to a maser or another 911. For regular use the turbo/Turbo S is a no brainer.

Interestingly, a Panamera is actually narrower than Macan and Cayenne. It's longer than both, though.

And shorter than a Maserati Quattroporte or Range Rover!

This thread reminded me of this.

Good video, that. Panny is sorely over-looked.

No need to keep DMing me. Surely with 4 children you’ve got better things to do on Mother’s Day than argue about whether you’re going to run your Golf for 100k, whether your GL has vinyl leather and rambling on about others being ‘Fanny’ fanboys.

Enjoy your Golf and looking like the Russian mafia (your words) in your ‘innit AMGs.

Someone just asked me whether they should buy a Range Rover but I’m suggesting they buy a Ford Focus instead. They’re not that different space wise and the Focus is such a complete car.
New Panny v new AMG (based on E63s).

I'd echo exactly the same comments Panny v E63s.

Autocar - what do they know smile

Old panny not even in the same frame its so average imo and tuppence nowadays too.

And to be clear I recommended keeping the 996 turbo as others have and buy something like a golf for dd duties. Keep up!

Thanks for the link, although I'm not sure the OP is looking at AMGs. To quote the OP:

'Rule#2. My questions as kind of simple, GTS vs Turbo. That's it....! Lets just say - right or wrong, the Mrs has already had her say on it - and Panny it will be (and who am I to complain).

Info: It is not to be a daily driver. It is replacing my 996tt which i have had for 4 years and just does ~1000 miles per year. Its a Sunday car, or for weekends away. Yes, its kind of fun, and fast enough of course. Just fancy a change, and cramped kids seems a good excuse to change now.
I have access to more than capable daily drivers and they are used for the usual daily commute.'

Re: the AMG, it looks quite nice but felt cheap inside. It's also based on the E63, which has very humble origins given the price point. That said, I'm sure it's more advanced than the old Panamera, a 10 year old car now.

Didn't the OP say he wanted a Panamera in his first post? If IMI A can't even read that, maybe he shouldn't contribute nonsense about a Golf having more space and a GTS being RWD.

Very glad you think my car is amazing.

So forget the Golf. Whats wrong with suggesting keeping the 996 turbo which is the salient point? You seem to be insulted that other people think the Panamera awful? Its a forum. Different opinions create the the market. Looking at Panamera residuals in the UK they speak for themselves in terms of what the Great British Public generally think of Porsche's first attempt at a luxury saloon. Depreciation wise its Porsche's worst car. The market doesn't often get it wrong. Great news for OP but as me and others have said its not really a weekend special car. You know that and I know that.

I've never said there was anything wrong with keeping the 996. Why would I? I just gave my views to the OP on the GTS and Turbo S after he said he wanted to buy a Panamera. If the OP needs a bit more space and fancies a change, that's his prerogative. If someone wants a Panamera as a weekend car, that's their choice.

I don't care what others think of my car and the reason I got into the debate was because IMI kept giving inaccurate information. It's a forum as you say, and surely the point is to share truthful and accurate info for the benefit of others - not say rubbish like the Golf is more spacious than a Panamera, a GTS is RWD, go on about how they think E63s, M5s, RS6s are better etc.

If someone says they need more space, they want a Panamera and then asks for suggestions about two models, why would anyone bother warbling on about how much better a Golf would be than the car the OP has chosen?

Regarding depreciation, you make out that the Panamera is the only car with poor residuals, ignoring the fact that certain Bentleys, plenty of AMGs, BMW M cars, Maserati QPs and even Ferrari V12s suffer the same problem. Is that because the Great British Public thinks they're all crap as well?
