I'm pondering next family vehicle.

And looking at Cayennes. Interested in thoughts and comments from those who've owned/driven the following:

Early 2018 (gen 2?) Turbo or later 2018 (gen 3?) S.

Which would you go for and why?

So you’re talking about last of the old snap Cayenne Turbo vs an new model S ?

I’ve got a 2017 S Diesel and have two or three loan Cayenne’s from my OPC trying to convince me to do the change. Personally I really like the older car...I think it’s better built and certainly if you buy one with the 18 way seats they are better than the equivalent in the new car...they don’t look as sporty but they are much more comfortable and equally supportive. Admittedly a big part of me not changing is that they don’t do a Diesel in the new car but I just don’t think the new one is that much better to drive and a well specced Turbo would be fantastic.

I’d say the other big difference is the controls....the earlier car is a button fest in comparison. So once you get to know where the buttons are it’s very easy to do what you need to do.....the current car has a much more modern “touchscreen” environment which depending on your views is good or bad. Most people like a bit of both. With Apple CarPlay in the older car it means your connectivity is bang up to date.

Both cars what you don’t want to buy is a car on the larger wheels with steel suspension....that’s 21’s on the colder car and 21’s or 22’s on the new car. I had a Cayenne Coupe with 22’s and steel suspension for a day....the ride was truly dreadful, Sales Exec told me the car had been specced as a cheap/bling spec which does sell apparently.

Good stuff thanks. I’m coming from an Amg E63S wagon. I know all about harsh ride smile

Good to know the later gen 2 interiors won’t feel too dated. I don’t think I’d be too bothered about missing out on all the gen 3 touch screen gubbins.

All food for thought anyway.

On steel with 21s here (V8 SD) and it’s very good, came from air so have experienced both.

TBH I only drove the gen 2 turbo. The reason for my original query was about would the interior/etc feel dated, but it's all good IMO.
